    3. Donna, I found a W. Hicks in Marshall, Oneida Co., NY in 1850 in the index. There were no Crays in all of Oneida Co. at least not on the index. The index is not perfect. I have found people in the census that were not on the index or names were mispelled so they weren't easy to find in the index. I checked for various spellings of Cray that I could think of. I did find one John Gray in 1850 but he was in Lee, not Marshall. In the 1860 census there were no Hicks in Marshall listed. There were no Crays in Oneida county listed. There were two John Grays but not in Marshall. I have access to the 1850 Oneida Co., NY census and will look the Hicks family up if you want me to. 3. My grandfather often spoke of his "Grandpa Meacham," his mother's stepfather. According to the obituary of my 2nd great grandmother, Alvira (Van Etta) Harrison Meacham, who was from Canajoharie and Ft. Plain but died in Utica on 20 August 1930, Alvira (whose father Lewis Van Etta had been an Erie Canal boatman in Canajoharie) had married broommaker Richard Harrison in 1864, had three daughters by him, was widowed in 1879, and in 1895 married Joseph Meacham. I believe Meacham worked at the Savage Arms in Utica, which was where most of my family worked. Meacham died 3 February 1918. He was not my blood relative, but my grandfather told me some things about him and I have his photo, if any Meacham researcher should have any interest. It is my understanding that he had no children by Alvira. 3. Hi, Your Empie name is probably tied to the original Palatine immigration in the early 1700's. Most became Loyalists at the time of the Revolution and they subsequently bailed out for Canada after fighting with the British troops against the colonists. You can check the different Canadian Loyalist organizations like the one below: http://www.islandnet.com/~jveinot/cghl/loyalist.html Then you might try varying the spelling: it is sometimes even seen as Impie or Impey. Check out the book, BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES OF LOYALISTS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION, by Gregory Palmer. In it is a thumbnail sketch of Phillip Impey. There is another one of Phillip Impey Sr. It says he lived in Tryon County owning 600 acrse of which "forty or fifty were cleared. He also owned sixty acres... at Stone Arabia, property which his father apparently sold to him for five shillings. Empey [spelling is switched] was forced off his land in 1777, and moved to Canada to join Sir John Johnson in 1780. He had several sons in the British Army, including Philip Jr;, who joined the British at Fort Stanwix in 1777 and served in Sir John Johnson's First Battalion. Philip Jr. settled afterwards at Johnstown, Canada..." Good luck in your search. 3. Hello, I am submitting names from various lines who were in Oneida Co. at some point. 1. Empey-looking for information about Richard Empey b abt 1814 m Elmira Putnam. I have the Putnam ancestry and would like info on the Empey side. They were in Camden (Empeyville?, I know it is tiny, been there!) They had at least one daughter Nancy Maria who m Edward Edick 1868. There is a lookup offer about Empeys on the usgenweb Herkimer.Montgomery site under the "cousins" page, I've submitted a query there also. The Putnam book, 1891, says that Elimra's husband and son servred in the late war. 2. McCluskey/McClusky/ Cook-looking for Samuel McClusky's family. He was from Ireland, b 1814 m Margaret Cook from Ireland b 1825. They were in Boonville and I suspect were a part of the family mentioned in the article about Potato Hill on this site. Samuel's daughter Isabelle was born 1856 in Boonville. Samuel went to MI. Would love to have information about who his parents, siblings, etc. were. 3. Dayton-Jonah b 1756/7 d 1837 son of Abraham Dayton and Abiah Beardsley was an early settler in Remsen. I understand there is a Dayton road and a Dayton cemetery in that area where a number of the family are buried. Would like any information on this family. Jonah m Jane Terrill and Patty (Martha) Smith. Thanks for any information about these families. Janet Kral

    3. Susan, I have learned not to throw away any notes and now as a result I have info for you. I have a spiral notebook and just draw a line thru the info when I am finished with it. I was in the Florence/Camden area searching for my Secors. I drove too far on a road, missed my turn, and was told that I was in Empeyville which now is just a curve in the road. I stopped asked questions and was told by Betty Selven that she had researched everyone in Empeyville. She told me that there used to be a lot of farming in that area, but after WWII people went elsewhere. The area is now overgrown with trees and undergrowth. She is retired from being a toll taker on the NYS Thruway. Now I don't know how extensive her research was. Here is her phone number: 315-245-2799. I do not have an address. Empeyville appears to be about 5 miles NE of Camden. Good Luck! 3. Hi, List... Still chasing the Empeys. It's not an uncommon name out along the Mohawk due to the Palatine influx in the early to mid 1700's. The Empeys we're after, however, first immigrated to the Camden Valley of Washington County (in 1786) before "removing" out to "the middle part of the state". We know there was an Anthony Empey in the area of Florence. Does anyone have anything on him or his origins? He would likely have been born in the late 1700's. The other individual was WILLIAM Empey, whose wife would probably have been ANN. That's all we have on them except that they, too, removed to the central part of NYS. Two more questions: 1. Does anyone have any info. on Empeyville? Recently spotted it in on a map of Oneida County. It must be a very small town indeed. 2. There was a mental health facility in Utica during the early to middle part of this century. Does someone know the name of it and/or if it is still in operation? Thanks very much.
