My ggrandfather, Griffith W. Griffiths came to this country from Wales for the first time in 1879 with a Hugh Williams a compartment-mate. Griff came to America to stay, with his wife and children, in 1888 and settled in Utica. Griff was a union organizer/secretary--Carpenter's union--in Utica. He and his wife adopted the wife's neice, Elsie Griffiths who was born in 1894 in PA, when Elsie's mother died ca 1897. Elsie married a Hugh Williams and lived in Rome, NY. Also, a Hugh Williams was a pallbearer at Griff's funeral in 1921. I have photos --some unlabeled and unidentified --from before 1921 especially. Ring any bells?? Thanks for your time, Pat Griffiths

Hi, Earlier today I sent along a link to my <A HREF="http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~njpatrn/Oneida%20resources.html ">Oneida Co Resources</A> page. It's now occured to me that my basic web sites <A HREF="http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~njpatrn/index.html">Pat's Genealogy Page</A> http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~njpatrn/index.html and http://www.geocities.com/~njpatrn/ <A HREF="http://www.geocities.com/~njpatrn/">Pat'sPage</A> and http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Garden/7021/famphogal.html <A HREF="http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Garden/7021/famphogal.html">Pat's Photo Gallery</A> have my basic family info and can serve as my intoduction to the list. The last link, the PHOTO link, includes some photos from the ninteen century in Oneida. I am particularly interested in learning the specific location of the MILLER FARM which was in the Sauquoit area...in fact, a dam on the Sauquoit Creek formed Miller's pond. The Ellsworth and Jane Lackey Miller page is not linked at present..when I get back from the doctors with my son I'll tend to that! Thanks, Pat Griffiths

In your research has anyone come across the name of my ancestor WILLIAM SALTAR in the time frame of 1800-1850? I know he came from New Jersey and lived in the Oneida County area but can't find what town nor what he did for a living. I've contacted many in the area but no one knows anything about him. I know he lived his last years with his daughter Sarah Saltar Mappa in the Mappa House in Oldenbarnveld. I want to know about his earlier years. His brother-in-law was Benjamin Walker who was a banker in Utica. The genealogist in New Jersey - Stillwell - says he went to Oneida County to work in a bank in Utica, but I can find no record of that. Does anyone know if the very early banks have records of their employees? Thanks in advance. Alice

Hello. I am new to this list. Is anyone on this list researching the HOUSE family of Oneida and Onondaga County, NY. I am a descendant of Chauncy HOUSE who appears in the 1860 Onondaga County census. This HOUSE family moved to Eaton County, MI in Abt. 1869. Other members of the family seem to be born in Oneida County, NY. Through this family I am supposed to be part Iroquois. Thanks! Ginette
We are looking for any information about Jemana "Mamie" Lowe Price. She was born 11/4/1860 in Stockbridge, Madison County, a daughter of John and Mary Ann Barnes Lowe. She was a resident of Oriskany for 40 years, dying 10/24/1939 at the age of 79. She had a twin sister, Jemina "Mina" Lowe Cox (still living in 1939). Surviving in 1939 were two other sisters, Flora Lowe Austin and Winnie Lowe and two brothers, William and Fred. Mamie may have been married twice, White possibly being her first husband. As early as 1915, she was a Price. She had a son, Peter White of Oriskany and a daughter, Flora Clark of Whitesboro. We also know she is buried in Oriskany cemetery. ANY information about Mamie is important to our research on the Lowe family in Madison County. Many of them seemed to migrate to Oneida County. Thanx... Robert & Valerie Lowe
