We did look into a few resources on Oneida County and the following is what we found: Our County and Its People, a Descritive work on Oneida County, Edited by Daniel E. Wager 1896 part I page 608-609 "Capt. Phineas Bell another Revolutionary veteran, and one of those who suffered in the Sugar House prison on Long Island, became a settler. He died May 13, 1845." Part III page 281 Family Sketches " Bell, Henry Dwight, was born in Westmoreland, NY., September 4, 1840, son of John Morris and Sarah Bell. John Morris Bell was the son of Phineas Bell, a soldier in the American Revolution; and Sarah Bell was the daughter of Anson Smith of Walesville, NY. Henry D. was educated at the district school, and at the Whitestown Seminary. He then engaged in farming at which he always continued. In Politiecs he is a Democrat. Mr. Bell married Helen Rogers of Whitestown, by whom he has three children Louis W., Edna and Grace." There is another account in the Annals and Recollecitons of Oneida County, by Pomroy Jones 1851. Pages 771-776 give the account of the Sugar House Prison and mentions Captain Phineas Bell. On page 776 it has the following inscription that is from his monument erected in his memory in the cemetery near Lairdsville. "Phineas Bell, A Patriot of the Revolution, Died May 13th 1845, Aged 84 years. He was one of the first to take up arms in defence of his country at the early age of 15 years, and served faithfully to the close of the perilous contest, has since been the recipient of the bounty of a grateful people, lived long to enjoy it, and died full of honors and of years." 3. Am interested in searching for information regarding John Wheeler, who along with his wife, Catherine Holberton Wheeler, moved to Westmoreland, Oneida County, N.Y. between 1803-05. They remained raising their family until approximately 1846. Prior to their move, they were known to have been members of the Congregational Church. Am also interested in finding marriage info for George Wheeler and Sarah ? about 1820. George was one son of John's. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks - Patty

    1. [NYONEIDA-L] MORRISON
    2. Tony & Jeri
    3. Hello :) This is my first post to the Oneida list. I am researching the family of my ggg-grandfather, JOHN HENRY MORRISON: born 8-14-1820 in Whitesboro, Oneida County. He married HARRIET KELLY JACKSON in Walworth, Wayne Co., New York. Harriet Jackson was born 11-17-1817 in Rochester, Monroe, New York. She died on 8-3-1897 in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan. They had 5 children: Harriet Elizabeth, Charles Henry (who died at age 1), Charles Henry (my gg-grandfather), George Edwin, and Alice May. My gg-grandfather, Charles Henry Morrison, was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1849, so I know that by then the family had left New York. I have been unable to find out more about John Morrison, his parents, any siblings, etc. Thank you! Jeri Dziabuda dziabuda@ismi.net
