    2. Peggy Burns
    3. Would anyone know where to write or visit to obtain information for voter registration? Here is my problem: My g-grandmother emigrated to the US in abt 1890. Because she was (God forbid) a woman, it was not necessary for her to fill out citizenship papers. When the women finally obtained the right to vote, she was one of the first in line to do so. Wouldn't she have had to prove citizenship? How would she be able to do that? Would there have been any sort of registration she would have to fill out? She lived in the village of Clinton in Kirkland Township, Oneida County. I am planning a trip up around Easter and would like to be able to get this information if available. Anyone? Thank you! 3. Mary, I happened to stumble on that cemetery a few years ago while prowling the woods in search of the elusive deer that live in the area. The cemetery is actually in the Town of Western closer to Steuben Corners rather than Lee and is VERY run down. If you ever want to visit it, contact me and I can give you directions to it, BUT wear good walking shoes, it's over a mile from the nearest road. Hello -- Is there anyone on this list who is interested in the Nisbet family that began in Oneida County in 1818 with the arrival of Robert Nisbet, cheese buyer from Adams, MA (see http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Arbor/1134/Stokes.html), and that has a few family members buried in the Nisbet cemetery near Lee? The cemetery listing is online, too. I just found these people (thanks to a search engine, the only way to go ... ) in Oneida after losing them from western Massachusetts, and I am interested in more information. Thanks, Mary S. 3. Hi Debbie - There's a category of "Newspapers" on Oneida Main Page www.rootsweb.com/~nyoneida . "Search this Site" is another useful category. Try 'death notices'. There is an Index of obituaries from the Rome Sentinel by date. Rome Citizen Death Notices have the text, location, dates (locations cover other towns/villages, not just Rome. Oneida County Resources and also WWW Links. Good luck! 1. [NYONEIDA-L] the 1840s
    2. I hope that some kind soul will be able to help me. I live in Chicago and am searching for family that came here from Oneida County in late 1850 early 1851. I have found the family (Button) living in Floyd in 1830, the same family living in Marcey in 1840. By the 1850 census the children are listed in different towns living with different families. I know that four of the children came to the midwest together. What I am interested in learning is this: what is a good source to find out what happened to the parents? Was there some illness similar to flu or cholera that hit Oneida Co. during the 1840s? Would anyone have a good idea where I should look next to try and find these missing parents? Thank you. Colleen

    3. Hi! My name is Gary James and I am seeking any info I can find on a Hiram/Hirum B. Seamans/Seamons. Can someone help me please. I have been in the process of exploring all sources and tips I come across to find information on this person and a kind lady mentioned that she had seen the Seamans name mentioned in this forum. What I know (or don't know): Hiram Seamans, it is estimated, was born abt. 1829 in NY (he was 32 when he was mustered into service in 1861). His granddaughter said during an interview that she thought he was from around Elmira, NY (He was in the 26th Inf (2nd Oneida Reg) during the Civil War that was mustered in in Elmira, but the names of Orange(?) and Hurley(?) are mentioned as well). .... , that she thought he was a blacksmith in the Civil War and that he had a brother named William. --- I'm afraid that is about all we know about this man's early life. Apparently, somewhere between 1865 and 1878 he, and/or his family, migrated to Fayette Co., IA, as he married a Katherine Siglin on 18 Apr 1878 in Fayette Co., IA. Thanks in advance for any assist. 1. [NYONEIDA-L] PHALEN, TICE, WOOD, DICK, WADSWORTH, PURDY, AYERS, AYRES
    2. Don Chauncey
    3. I am trying to locate descendants of HANNAH WALKER TICE PHALEN who lived in CAMDEN, NY from about about 1891 (or sometime after the death of her first husband, JAMES H. TICE in 1883) until her death in 1926. She married PATRICK C. PHALEN in Camden on October 20th, 1892. Her parents were Thomas Walker and Elizabeth Lausbrough. Her children were: 1. CARRIE E. TICE, born about 1874. Carrie married a WILLIAM WOOD of Syracuse. They had a son KENNETH WOOD of Lockport. There were two other grandchildren of Hannah who lived in Syracuse area and may be children of Carrie and William Wood. They are: MRS. J. D. WADSWORTH, of Syracuse and MRS. H. DUANE PURDY of North Syracuse. Mrs. Purdy had a child JEAN MARIE PURDY. 2. FANNIE V. TICE, born about 1876. She married BENJAMIN DICK of Rome and they lived in Gloversville in 1926. They had a son HAROLD DICK who lived in Albany. Harold had a daughter GERTRUDE DICK of Albany. 3. JAY WALKER TICE, born about 1879. J. Walker went west and settled in Portland, Oregon. I am interested in any information that has been passed down about PATRICK PHALEN, Hannah's second husband, who emigrated from KILKENNY, IRELAND to either Canada or the United States (possibly to the Oswego, New York area). He was born March 26, 1824, though this date is uncertain, and emigrated in the summer of 1844. I believe his parents were PATRICK PHALEN and BRIDGET CAHILL (though one reference lists his mother's first name as Catherine). He married EMILY AYERS (or AYRES) in 1849 and settled in Camden, New York about 1860 living there until his death in 1901. He was a Private in Company B, 117th NY Volunteers from 1862 through 1865. Prior to 1860 he lived in Williamstown, New York (circa 1851) and prior to that West Leyden, New York. He was a member of the Congregational Church for 40 years. I would greatly appreciate any information about the family or the descendants of Hannah Phalen. Don Chauncey Oak Park, IL
