    2. William Terrell
    3. Hi listers-- I'm looking for info on the children of George H. and Caroline Herrick Spink, of the town of Lee, Oneida County NY, 1850's-1860's. I have only my ggrandfather's obituary to go on--He was Harvey Isaac Spink, one of six children, born in 1860. I would appreciate any help on the names of the other five siblings, or any other possible info. Thanks! Dianne

Matt, Dean of Businessmen, Dies" F.X. Matt, 99, dean of Utica Businessmen and industrialists, died June 27, 1958 in his home, 1910 Whitesboro St., after an illness of 10 weeks. Mr. Matt organized the West End Brewery 72 years ago and was chairman of its board at the time of his death. He was born in Igelschlatt in Schiechthal, Baden, Germany on Mar. 25, 1859, a son of Theodore and Johanna Matt. In 1878, Mr. Matt's parents came to the United States and Utica. His father opened a meat market at Schuyler and Green Sts. while F.X., as he was known to all, went to work in the brewery of Carl Bierbauer on Edward St. A year later, F.X. went to Canajoharie where he was employed in the brewery of Louis Bierbauer for seven years. He returned to Utica in 1886 and founded the West End Brewery, successor to the Carl Bierbauer Brewery. The latter firm catered only to local trade. Under Mr. Matt's management, the newly-organized business prospered and expanded its operations. In 1888 Mr. Matt became brewmaster and general superintendent. With 12 brewery workers and three salesmen, his firm produced and distributed 16,000 barrels of beer each year. By 1953, the firm had employed more than 350 persons on an annual payroll that exceeded $1 million. Its annual sales then amounted to about 400,000 barrels. In 1891, he was chosen treasurer of the company and in 1905 was named president. At the time of his death he also was treasurer. He was one of the Uticans who in 1911 formed the Hotel Utica Corporation and for years served continuously as a director of the company and later president. He had been president of the Utica Cutlery Co. which he helped organize and later chairman of the board for about 26 years. Mr. Matt was one of the organizers of the Utica Fire Insurance Co. in 1903 and served continuously as one of its directors 55 years. For many years he was a director of the First Bank & Trust Co., the Utica Knitting Co. and the Clayville Knitting Co. In both world wars, he worked in bond drives and for the local war chests. He actively served during World War 1 on the Home Defense Committee. When he was about 30, Mr. Matt married Miss Elizabeth Selbach of Utica, Oct 14, 1890, in Utica. The family had lived at 1910 Whitesboro St. for about 56 years. Mrs. Matt died Dec 13, 1942. A lifetime member of St. Joseph's Church, Mr. Matt was one of the organizers of its Holy Name Society. 2. I would again like to state my request for a lookup on an 1860 census for Oneida County. I am interested in Sybilla Stopper, her age in 1860, and where she was from. Is there anyone out there in Oneidaland who has access to and would be so kind as to do this lookup for me? I am looking for someone by the name of Sybilla. She was my great grand aunt and I have no idea what happened to her after she emigrated to this country in 1854. Out of desperation, I searched the federal census for just her first name and found 3 women by that name. Her maiden name was Himple. the other 2 counties are also near the one where the rest of her family ended up in December of that year. She was too old to go to the orphanage where her 3 younger siblings were placed. Her older brother joined the Civil War from Booneville, NY in Oneida County. So it's a long shot in the dark, I know, but I thought perhaps it is possible that she and her brother had gone to the same town, and she maybe married someone there. I'd be most appreciative if someone could do this favor for me, and if anyone needs anything from Buffalo NY area, I'd be happy to oblige. Thank you. Marilyn mcraig5060@aol.com

    2. Neal F. Carrier
    3. I've already deleted the email from whoever was looking for the Oneida/Lewis County "Munnsville" but hopefully they are still here. I drive that route (12D from Boonville to Lowville) quite a bit and don't remember seeing any Hamlet identified as "Munnsville" now, so the name must have been changed by the current makers of hamlet signs to something else. btw: 12D goes from Boonville to Potters Corners where it meets 26 from Rome. Then the roads merge as one thru Turin to Lowville and I think is known as 26. There are quite a few neat old cemeteries along this road. I have to drive it this week, so I'll see if I see any Munn's signs or markers along the way. Neal Carrier > >There used to be a hamlet called Munnsville. 1. [NYONEIDA-L] RE: Munnsville NY or Munnsville the Hamlet or Munnsville Corners
    2. Thanks Dan However, this was a hamlet not a village that was referred to as Munnsville. NY. I am very well aware of the Village that you are talking about. The place that I am referring to might even be Munnsville Corners, but is no where near the Area you are referring to. I did state a hamlet rather than a village in my original email to the list. Not even close to the Village. I lived for years near the area I'm talking about and it might not even be a place recorded except in org. local history. Sometimes in the past there wereas two places named the same and only one survived.
