Gregg, If you live in Albany, you are likely to find census records on microfilm at the NY State Library. If not, take a short drive east to Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and visit the National Archives depository there (off Route 20, near Super Stop & Shop, a few miles south of the center of town). You'll find all of the federal census records for the entire country there, and volunteers will help you find what you want. Call ahead (413) 445-6885 for hours of operation, and for travel directions. They are open some Saturdays. It would also help if you know in advance which ward of the city you are looking in. The Social Security Death Index does not include everyone. My father (d. 1947) is not on it. I am told this is because he left minor children who received survivors' benefits. I suspect also that deaths may not be listed if families never applied for the SS death benefit, or if the deceased never worked or applied for a Social Security number. Good luck! Linda, In addition to the censuses, you might try looking for an obit in the Boonville Herald. Boonville is the town west of Forestport and the weekly paper may have covered Forestport deaths. The old issues are on microfilm at the Erwin Library, Boonville, NY 13309. 942-4834. Hi- I just reviewed the census records available on Ancestry.com for 1930. I found mostly everybody I was interested in getting. 1920, however was another story. Alot of the records seemed to be missing, and not many relatives were even indexed. Is there another source online? I am in Albany, NY. Are the census records for Utica, for example, kept in the capitol, or would I have to get to Utica to find them? Or are they lost? Any good sources of births and deaths in Oneida County online? Not online? For those I wasn't able to find on the Social Security Deatch Index (Any idea why they wouldn't be on here?). I have just begun my search, I apologize for all of the dumb questions. Thanks, Gregg _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: advanced junk mail protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail

Would anyone of this list have further information regarding a Daniel D. Tompkins and Jane E. (Hinman) Tompkins marriage or census image. I'm not sure exactly what year they married. I believe it was around 1860-1862ish. I am trying to locate them in a census and it seems to be taking forever. I just joined this list when I found out that these two people (my Great Great Grandparents) were married in "Paris, Oneida County, New York". Daniel D. is the son of David D. who was born in 1808 in Coxsacki, Greene County to "Betsy". I would appreciate ANY help anyone can give me. It is sooooo hard to track the Daniel D.'s from New York to "wherever"!! Thanks in advance!! Carolyn [email protected] Searching Tompkins, Hinman, Mercier to name a few
I'm trying to contact a DUNN descendant of Oneida County that knows someone that might have researched the JOHN DUNN bn. abt. 1825 in Ireland and was living with his family in Oneida Castle in 1860 census. He was married to Lydia, and they had the following children: MICHAEL bn. abt. 1856 Mary abt. 1858 John abt. 1860 Maggie abt. 1863. (Maggie was not in 1860 census) It is my understanding from family rumor that John Dunn died in an accident abt. 1863. His wife Lydia was living with a WM. KNOWLES in Lenox, Madison co. in 1870 census. It is my understanding that she died abt. 1872. I've been unable to find the children except baby Elizabeth that was bn. to Lydia Dunn and William Knowles in 1869. She was my husband's grandmother. I've researched just about every DUNN in ONEIDA CO. and believe me there are a lot of them. I'm just hoping that someone reading this will know of a historian or a liviing relative that might be able to throw some light on this DUNN family. Phyllis in Fl.

Gregg: Prices for the packets incl. S & H, vary according to amount of content. Unfortunately, the packets are not indexed yet and we are trying to consolidate 40 years of annual indices. Bearing in mind that there are no guarantees, however, a compilation of 40 years worth of pre-1860 abstracting for your county has a high probability of a hit on one of your lines or discovering a new line. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nycnygs Jim ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gregg Miller" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, May 25, 2003 9:05 PM Subject: Re: [NYONEIDA-L] Betsy Betsinger Mowers > Jim > > How do you get the abstracted works of the Central New York Genealogical > Society?
