1. Re: [NYONEIDA] More town histories for New York (oneida andOnondaga Counties)
    2. EGAD! This is an example of the old saying that "haste DOES make waste!" I rushed that off when I saw that more town histories in New York - especially Oneida - were available! William Saltar (1757-1853) moved to the area in around 1802. A source said that he was an officer in the U. S. Bank in Utica, but they have no record of that. His son-in-law - Benjamin Walker - aide and adopted son of the Baron von Steuben was the president. My source (HISTORICAL AND GENEALOGICAL MISCELLANY by John Stillwell) also said that in 1796 the condition of the Indians was so unsatisfactory that Joseph Saltar (Wm.'s father) was with others appointed to attend to the lands assigned to the Indians. Wm. Saltar and two other men were appointed commissioners to sell their lands. I haven't found that anywhere else, either!

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone. 2. Thank you for these town histories! My great, great grandfather William Saltar, lived in the area and for his last years in Trenton/Oldenbarnveld with his daughter, Sarah Saltar Mappa. I have tried "forever" to find out what he did for a living!!! Does anyone by chance know where "else" I should look? Thanks. 3. Kathy, I found the record, and agree it doesn't make sense. I would think that there is a mistake in the source they have listed. They are posting things so fast that some errors are slipping through. Even so, I'm really enjoying the expanded material. I have family who are still printers in Rome, so this was interesting to me. 3. Does anyone have access to the Rome Directories and could do a look up for me. I am trying to locate my 2nd great-grandfather, Charles H. Mason. I believe he was in Rome, NY in 1855-1859. I recently found a mention of him in Ancestry.com's New York Genealogical Records, 1675-1920; however the source mentioned does not make sense. The database has him living in 1857, Rome, Oneida, NY, occupation Printer; but the source is the 1827 Directory of Rochester, page 66. I do not see how he can be in the 1827 Directory of Rochester in 1857 :-). I am wondering if he could possibly be in the 1857 Rome Directory and possibly 1858 and 1859 directories, if they exist. Thanks for any help. Kathy Stonecipher

    3. Does anyone know the death date and parentage of Letty (Celestia) Thomas, wife of John T. Thomas. In 1920, they lived at 108 W. Fox St., in Rome, NY. Letty was the adopted daughter of Hyzer Williams of Westernville. There is an inscription for Letty (no date) in Wright Settlement Cemetery. Her husband John T. Thomas died in 1946, so I am guessing she died later and there was no one to post her death date on the stone. Thanks Roy

    2. Greetings Listers! I was wondering if someone who frequented the paper archives would be so kind to do an obit lookup for me. Picking at straws trying to learn details of my Grt. Grandmother Tina. A. COOPER COLE. She was from Vienna and born2/28/1855 to Alden C. Cooper and wife. She married Thomas G. Cole jr. on 9/15 or 25/1872. She died 5/14/1882. She left a husband and son Edward, and Homer, perhaps died bearing him. She was buried with her folks in the North Bay Lawn Cemetery instead of with her husband who is buried in Camden. Any help appreciated. Regards, David in NW Fl., but an Oneida native!
