Vee and Jane: Yes, in 1857, Phoebe was living in Niagara County, and in 1860, she was living on Long Island. Could this be her "long dreaded year" she was talking about? Also, Phoebe was British, and that could also be why she used British terms for money. In Phoebe's 1863 diary, she is back in Niagara County, but I haven't been able to figure out if she was hiring herself out for work. Kim
