Author: karalenah Surnames: Keating Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.niagara/3457/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Looking for information on Peter and Mary Keating of Lockport, New York. Both were born in Ontario, Canada in the 1860s and immigrated to the US in the mid-1880s. Peter apparently worked as a blacksmith in a radiator factory from the early 1900s to at least 1930. Mary's maiden name may have been Fitzgerald or Kennedy. They had four daughters: Madeline, Florence, Ruth and Bernice. Madeline was a nurse, Florence a teacher; Ruth and Bernice may have gone into nursing as well. They also had two sons: Clarence (my ancestor, who went into the Navy in WWI and moved to Chicago) and James. Looking for death dates in particular or any other information. 3. Don’t know about a “blacksmith” working at a radiator factory. But,my husband worked for General Motors at the Harrison Radiator factory in Lockport in his younger years. My guess would be that Peter also worked at the same factory. Chances are that your Peter could have possibly worked as a blacksmith BEFORE working for Harrison Radiator. Harrison Radiator came into existence in the early 1900’s. My husband’s father started working there in the late 1930’s-1940’s. They sold the factory name to Delphi Thermal Systems in the mid 1990’s, and no longer use even half of the plant although all of the original buildings are still there. When we made a trip up to Lockport a few years back, we were able to view and access the old city directories at the public library to help us locate some of our family members in the early 1930’s and 1940’s. I would think that if you were able to find someone who would look through some of any of the three old newspapers at the library, you might find the obits you are looking for. I don’t think you can request help from a librarian unless you had a fairly close death date, though. Here’s one of the links to the library: http://www.lockportlibrary.org/lh.html. Good luck in your search. Hope that some of what I’ve shared will be helpful.
