I'm sure that the LDS Library would be willing to microfilm the New York vital records index. I believe it is the New York State government that is blocking this. They will not even allow photocopies of the index when you use it at one of the few libraries that make this available. Several other states have done this and the index gives no more information than the SSDI already does. We've been paying 22 dollars per record for quite some time now and I think they've made enough to attempt a project like the digitization of the index. As always we can have more of an impact on our representatives with larger numbers so I would truly love it if my fellow NYS Genealogists wrote in to their representatives as well.
