NY Queries Board URL: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/NY/Niagara?read=178 Surname: Couch ------------------------- Was there a particular area in Niagara Falls, NY that had a large Irish population in the early 20th century? Was there perhaps a certain church where most would have attended at this time? I'm hoping to find a Francis Edward Couch (1882-?) born in Cortland,NY, but possibly a resident of Niagara Falls in his adult yrs.. I'm also interested in a Francis Couch (1904-1981) who died in Niagara Falls in July of 1981 and may be the above's son. Thank you for any information, clues or advice in this quest.

    3. Dear Bunch, I just responded to Sue Moyer's query that was posted on the Niagara Co. NY Queries and I don't know if it will show up on our list. But I thought I would share it with you just in case my response doesn't show up here. Sue, Yes, indeed, the Irish settled in the North End of Niagara Falls. It was formerly called Suspension Bridge, NY. My guess as to the church they attended was Sacred Heart RC Church at 1917-11th St., Niagara Falls, NY 14305, phone (716)282-1749. Regarding your COUCH family, I have a copy of the 1958 City Directory of Niagara Falls and in it are the following people: Edw. B., optical loader, Carbo, home 943 Ontario Ave. Ethel, Mrs., fcty wkr Wicker Wire Wheel Co., home 614 Niagara St., Apt. 8 Francis M. (Rose), mach opr Intl G&ECorp., h 724-16th St. Thos. F. (Bessie), h 3592 Rhode Island Ave. (Town of Niagara) I hope this brightens your day! :-) vee in Youngstown, NY ----- Original Message ----- From: Sue Moyer <MAABI@webtv.net> To: <NYNIAGAR-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 12, 2000 11:01 PM Subject: Irish in Niagara Falls > Posted on: Niagara Co.
