Niagara Listers: I have recently found that my Ggrandfather Augustus Holden was born in Hartland on Sep 3 1821. He had migrated by 1849 to Genesee County, MI, where he spent the next 40 years. Along the way, he married (9/15/1844) Caroline Matilda Bullock of East Worcester, Otsego County NY. I have tried to link Augustus to some earlier Holdens, so far with little success other than to find, in Hartland in 1820, J.W. Holden (listed in census index as J.M.). J.W.'s household includes a male child under 10, one male 18-26, one to 45, and two adult females 16-26. I presume this to be Augustus' family. There is also a James Holden in 1820 in Clarence. No Holdens appear in the 1830 census in Hartland, but an Alvah lives in Lockport. By 1850, there are Joseph Holden, age 49, Cooper and Ezra Holden, age 34, Farmer, in the town of Porter (who could fit the two younger males of 1820 Hartland). Does someone out there know anything about these various Holdens? Do the Holland-America Land Company records give places of origin of the land purchasers? Thank you for your consideration. Fred Swart
