Hi, Group! It's 7:35 AM and I'm salivating for beef on weck! For a quick one, I agree that Anderson's makes very good ones. Of course being in Wilson, I think Lockport's is best (even if it is a local chain out of Buffalo). Wagner's in Lockport has been famous for theirs for many years. And isn't too far West of the court house and historical society! They also supply beer, which is almost a must with a weck. I looked up the Troy Pub site and feel that I am obligated to warn all of you out-of-towners that a REAL weck is NOT a kaiser roll without the salt and seeds. The topping is a MUST. Also, diehard fans only use hot horseradish not horseradish sauce (you know the creamy stuff). I'm sorry to warn you that sometimes, even restaurants around here, will try to pass off plain kaiser rolls and that creamy stuff. Please be warned. Once you eat a true Beef-on-Weck, you will understand why so many natives are expected to carry a bag or two of rolls to other parts of the country, when they visit relatives. And just in case you are a Ruben fan, Brennan's in Youngstown makes the best! Good eating when you get here! Ellen Colangelo Wilson, NY PS We don't eat "Buffalo Wings" in this area of the country, only "outsiders" do. We eat "Wings". Most people devour them with bleu cheese; but if you are allergic to the cheese like I am, honey mustard or plain mustard tastes pretty good, too. But nothing beats a tender, salty, seedy Beef-on-Weck.....
Hi Ellen, I will pass your Rueben compliment on to my cousin, the owner of Brennan's Irish Pub in Lewiston !! Anybody know which Tavern in Olcott or Newfane serves the best Beef-on-Weck"?
