October 21, 1933 JOHN R. HIGGINS DIES --------------------- City Employe, Resident Here 33 Years, Is Victim of Long Illness --------------------- John R. Higgins, 58 years old, 332 Tenth Street, died at his home this morning following a year's illness. The funeral will be held from the family home at 8:30 a.m. Monday, with services at St. Mary's church at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Riverdale cemetery [actually buried in Gate of Heaven cemetery with wife, Hannah]. Born in Ireland. Mr. Higgins came to the United States 33 years ago and had lived in Niagara Falls since that time. He was employed as an operator at the city water works plant. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Anna [Hannah I.] Higgins; five sons, Carlisle, Raymond, Joseph, Emmett and Edward, all of this city; one grandchild; three brothers, Michael of Chicago, and Thomas and Patrick, of Ireland. __________________________________________________ Niagara Falls Gazette, Niagara Falls, New York, U.S.A. Tuesday, October 24, 1933 HOLD HIGGINS' RITES ----------- Many Attend Funeral Services for Veteran City Employe. ----------- Funeral services for John R. Higgins, 58 years old, well known city employe who died Saturday following a prolonged illness, were held from the family home, 332 Tenth Street, at 8:30 a.m. today and at 9 o'clock from St. Mary's church, where a requiem high mass was celebrated by the Rev. C. F. Killeen. The bearers at the services which were attended by a host of friends of the deceased were Bertram Dignan, Edward Mayle, Matthew McMahon, Michael Hickey, Michael Kelly and Nash Egan. Interment was in Riverdale Cemetery [actually buried in Gate of Heaven cemetery with wife, Hannah].
