Regarding fees for obtaining BDMs in Niagara County, although the fee when you send away to Albany for records is $11, in particular the city of Niagara Falls charges $10 (my most recent request was in September for seven records for $70). And I think I recall paying $10 also to the town of Newfane for a death certificate last year. I also paid the city clerk of Buffalo $10 per record last September. It may be that the individual city or town sets its own rate. One important thing I've learned is to always send a photocopy of my driver's license as ID. And when I don't have the city or town's own form for the request, I print out the state's form and send it/them along with a covering letter which includes a list of the records I am requesting, thinking that it's better to do too much than too little. Also, at least the city of Niagara Falls requires a money order or cashier's check -- no personal checks. I would highly recommend speaking to the town/ city clerk before applying, since they all seem to do things differently from each other. I've had very good luck (after some waiting!) in my efforts to obtain BDMs in Niagara County by mail (not so good in person, though, but that's another story . . . .)
