This AM, I spoke with the Niagara County Historian, located at Niagara & Hawley, Lockport, NY 14094, regarding the whereabouts of wills. He told me they would be at the Niagara County Surrogate Court, located at 175 Hawley St., Lockport, NY 14094. I just got off the phone with Judy at the Surrogate's office. She told me that they do NOT do the researching; but do charge $1.00/per copy page. In other words, the researcher does his/her own work; and the office does the copying. She said that she knows of cases where it has cost a person $70.00 to have the search done. Apparently, it depends on what type of records one wants as to whether the "clerk" does the work or not. Since I live in Niagara County but do not have any deep roots here, I did not know this. I should have asked if there is a time in years limit. Oh, well, maybe tomorrow. Keep digging! Ellen Colangelo (I include my last name because there seem to a couple of us whose mothers knew "we were lights in the darkness". That's what our name means.) :)
