Does anyone know of a source addressing the community of Ukrainians who settled in the Niagara Falls - Buffalo area? My grandfather, Gregory (Harry) Sydorowicz died in Niagara Falls in 1917 at age 48. He had married my grandmother, Kataryna Nima, in Allentown, PA in 1913 and then moved the family (they were both widowed with children) to Niagara Falls. Although we have not found the "link", I'm assuming that he had family there and went in search of better work. There are, today, Sydorowiczs in that area as there are many other Ukrainian surnames. Gregory is buried in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Lewiston, NY where we have recently placed a monument on his previously unmarked grave. His burial certificate was issued through Holy Trinity Church in Niagara Falls, NY, but the family is not listed as members there. We have searched records there and at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church in Buffalo. I've not seen any reference to a Ruthenian church there, but that is the religion listed on the ship manifests.I cannot find Gregory in the Ellis Island files, so perhaps he came through Canada; there are many Sydorowiczs on the Canadian side of the border. Any ideas? Thanks, Phyllis Reimer

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone. Find out more about what's free from AOL at http://www.aol.com.
