Surnames: WILLE, URIEL, RICKARD Rochester, Monroe, NY Democrat & Chronicle Sat May 1, 1926 NIAGARA Cats and Dogs Killed, Bodies Put in Creek Pollution of Stream Stirs County Authorities to Investigation Poison Theory Held Creek Used by Farmers to Water Stock; Leads to Trout Brook Lockport, April 30 - An investigation by local authorities which may result in serious charges was under way to-day following the discovery of a number of dead dogs and cats in Clark's creek, a small stream in the town of Lockport, east of Young's Bridge. The investigation is being carried on by Sheriff Elton L. WILLE, Supervisor Raymond W. URIEL, chairman of the Health Board of the town of Lockport, with the co-operation of the Lockport police. The stream is adjacent to the farm of Supervisor URIEL who made the discovery and instigated proceedings to fix the responsibility. The bodies were found to be in varying stages of decomposition, leading authorities to believe they had been thrown in the creek different times throughout the winter. The aid of local police was enlisted to determine if any of the animals shot in this city were among those discovered, but it was found none of the animals met death in this way. The authorities believe that they were poisoned and the bodies dumped in the creek. Sheriff WILLE declared vigorous prosecution may follow leads now being investigated. The creek in which the bodies were found is used by several farmers to water their stock and it drains into another brook which has been stocked with trout by the State Conservation Commission. ----<>---- SIXTH INDIAN HELD IN THEFT OF TIRES Lockport, April 20 - Herman RICKARD, 20 years old, a Tuscarora Indian, was arrested to-day at LaSalle on a bench warrant issued by the district attorney's office here, and is in jail awaiting arraignment on an indictment charging burglary, third degree, and grand larceny. RICKARD is one of six Indians indicted by the April Grand Jury for the theft of several tires from the Mason garage, town of Lewiston on August 14th last. The arrest of the six Indians raises the question of the state's jurisdiction, and it has been cited that a Supreme Court decision in another case gave to the Federal courts the jurisdiction in a list of several offenses, among which is larceny.
