He was born in Vermont in Jan 1823, was the quartermaster of the regiment during the Civil War, was promoted to Captain in Nov 1862. He died in Oct 1879 in Washington DC. I am trying to find his parents and have made a guess that Christopher H Skeels (born in 1795 in Vermont and settled in Hartland) is his father... I say guess because I've found so many different spellings of his last name that all I have left are guesses. The "guess" is backed up by the Christopher L Skeels GAR Post having been in Hartland, that they both were apparently born in Vermont and that Christopher H Skeels would have been 27/28 in 1823 and was making a family at that time (as they had another son, Ransom, in 1825).
