I need to know the first name of my g.g.grandfather "J" STOW in order to try to go back another generation. He married Elizabeth ??, who lists her birthplace as NY. They had 6 sons, 5 of whom created the internationally known STOW CIRCUS- John, Eliakim, Wesley, Apolias, Harrison. (The 6th sons is unknown.) Elizabeth was born in NY in 1797, and John b. 1818, & Eliakim b. 1820 consistently list NY as their birthplace; the ohers were born in OH. I am assuming that "J" & Elizabeth were married in NY. Are there any county marriage and/or birth records 1815 - 1820? I recently found a brief obituary of Elizabeth in the Cleveland Necrology File #078. It said, "Widow Elizabeth Stow, in the 60th year of her age died April 14, 1857" She is buried in Ottokee, OH; her stone says, "Betesy - wife of "J" STOW." My g.grandfather, Harrison, was born in 1837; Elizabeth is listed as the head of the household in 1840 in Cuyahoga Co OH. So, I'm assuming "J" died between 1837-1840.
