Gail: I had somewhat a similar situation. In my case it was sister of my grandfather who was born in England and came to Canada as a British Home Child. She was in St. Catherines, Canada, and then in the 1900 Niagara Falls, NY US Census. Thereafter, no Census info. Assumed she had married. Look at the New York State Archives website. They have the marriage records for early 20th century. It does take however a very long time to get a response. Perhaps someone else on the list can tell you whether Buffalo would have any records available for that time period.
