Dear Pat, Wilson is a village in the Town of Wilson on the shores of Lake Ontario in Niagara Co. It's east of Town of Porter and west of Town of Newfane. It was named after Reuben Wilson Before Wilson became a town of its own in 1818, Reuben was elected as supervisor of the Town of Porter in 1815. In the book "Landmarks of Niagara County" edited by William Pool, 1897, it says that Reuben Wilson settled here in 1810 and that he (and others) "left the Canadian shore near Toronto in April, the two former [including Reuben] accompanied by their families, with household and farm utensils. They rowed around the head of Lake Ontario in open bateaux, camping on the shores at night, and in the early part of June, they arrived at the mouth of Twelve-mile Creek. A mile and a half east of there they landed, unloaded their effects, and by the aid of the boats turned bottom up and enclosed at the sides with bark, made a temporary abiding palce. They lived thus three months, during which time Wilson and [John] Eastman had each completed a substantial log house. The book goes on to record Reuben's reminiscenses which, if you're interested, I could transcribe and send to you. In addition it ways that Reuben Wilson was a native of Mass., migrated to Otsego Co., NY in 1805 and then went to Coburg, Canada in 1807. It goes on to tell further information about him. He had a son Luther. vee ----- Original Message ----- From: Pat Scott <pmscott@voyager.net> To: <NYNIAGAR-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, May 23, 2000 11:53 AM Subject: Michigan site > > Debbie, > Thanks for the site, Very interesting .
