This is my first post to your list. My hope is to learn more about the families of my Simmons and Cole great-grandparents who are listed on the 1880 Census in New Fane, Niagara Co. Briefly, here is what I know: Sarah Jane Simmons b. NY ca 1855 m. Robert Frank (or Frank Robert) Cole b. NY ca 1845. In 1880 they had one son, Frank, age 1 yr. old. They eventually moved to Elmira in Chemung Co. where my ancestor, James Meron Cole was b.1883. Sarah's parents are listed as b. ENG and NY on various census formats. James' parents were both born in NY. I've found evidence of many Simmons and Cole families in Niagara Co. in the mid 1800's, but none of them seem to fit in my family puzzle.
