It is public record, so they let us make copies/scans of all of it. 1948 shouldn't be filed yet, so I should just be able to request it and they can walk down the hall and get it. I have contacted Niagara Surrogate Courts and they said that there is no will for my relative, only an administration of estate file. I wondered if you knew if it is possible to see these or get copies of them. I wonder how big these files are and if you know if the surrogate court at Lockport might be willing to post me copies as I live in |England and cannot visit the centre. They have computers you can use for free and look up the names of the individuals and it will give you a file number. You fax the request to the records storage and they bring it back to the probate court for you, usually by the next day. You can then review the probate file and make copies. On the fultonhistory.com website I found a blurb about his will being filed in 1919. This was from the Buffalo Express, October 10, 1919. Joseph Hirder's will filed. Joseph Harder's will was filed in the surrogate's office yesterday. Mr. Harder died in Tonawanda last November 25th. leaving property worth about $5,500 to his widow. All spellings are as they were written. It looks like Sophia was married to Casmer Harder as they are listed in the 1860 census. She is listed as Josephene. They have 2 children listed. Catherine age 4 and Jasper age 2. I have a note that Casmer died in the Civil War but I don't have him as being buried in Royalton. I have no idea where he is buried. Sophia did file to collect on his pension in 1864. >From the 1865 census: Sophia Harder age 36 widow Katharine Harder age 9 Joseph Harder age 7 Christina Harder age 5 Mary Harder age 3 >From the 1870 census: George Kettleman age 25 Sophia Kettleman age 42 Joseph Harder age 12 Christina Harder age 10 Mary Harder age 7 Charlotte Kettleman age 3 Sophia Kettleman age 9 months I don't see them in Royalton in 1875. She married my Great Grandfather Sackville Hill and moved to Canada in 1892. Her Family lived in Gasport & Tonawanda. I am trying to locate info on her sisters & brother. Her sisters were Lena (1858), Mary (1860) & Charlotte (1867). Her brother was Joseph (1858) who may have used the last name of Harder. We know that her sister Charlotte was known as Lotte and she had a daughter named Lucy. Lucy apparently lived on Hartwell rd in Buffalo and had a daughter named Hazel who married a man named Loew or Lobe. Any info on the family would be appreciated.
