I find that very interesting. I found an old mug when I was a young girl in an old abandoned house deep in the woods in Missouri. I have always been extremely fascinated with it, I get it out and look at it from time to time and just try to imagine the history regarding it and how it made it to Missouri. I am 40 now and the fascination has only increased. Do you have an idea or any information which I can research regarding this company. From what I can remember by the posts...your ancestors worked there, that is very fascinating. Thank you, Karen Frost Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Marie remarried and had another daughter, Cecelia Johnston/Johnson in 1887 (although her birthdate changes from one census to another). Three more children followed, then their father also died. My GGrandmother, Nora Louise, at age 10/11, was put out as a live-in servant girl to a Darcy family in Buffalo, and at least some of the other children were put in an 'orphanage'. Then Marie remarried again to a Draper, he was electrocuted 2 weeks later, then she married someone named Stuart. My GGrandmother tried to find her 1/2 siblings - she found a boy, Edward, in Newfane but Lucy had been adopted and the story is that she went to Chicago and became a pianist. The other child was named Leona. That's it, I'm afraid ! Thank you for your interest, Maureen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Since her parents' marriage, her birth, his death, and her mother's remarriage were between censuses, I can't find any trace of them. If anyone has any clues that you could please share with me, I'd be very grateful. Thank You, Maureen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I visited the Lockport area in August of last year and dug up quite a bit of information. My interest in Niagara County concerns my ggggrandfather, Noah Cooley, his son Andrew Sutherland Cooley and Andrew's wife, Salome Warren. Noah came to Cambria Township in 1815 and settled on land of the Holland Purchase. Information on Salome Warren is very sketchy, as is true with most women of the 19th century, unfortunately. She was born in Mass and that's about it. Her parents remain unknown. I'll outline what I know without going into a flowing narrative. Warren's Corners is a hamlet located near the four corners of Lockport, Cambria, Newfane, and Wilson towns (townships). Warren's Corners took its name from Ezra Warren (b. 1790, d. 1880), who was a native of Vermont and served on this frontier in the war of 1812. His company was stationed along the Ridge Road to arrest deserters. Mr. Warren and a squad of his men were posted four weeks at the tavern then kept by the widow of Mr. Forsythe After his discharge Warren returned to Vermont, but an attachment which he had formed for the widow brought him westward and he married her. He thus became landlord in the tavern and so continued until 1825. - from "Landmarks Of Niagara County, New York" Currently a Methodist church stands at Warren's Corners on land donated by Ezra Warren. He is memoralized in stained glass over the church's front entrance. His house was located just west of the church across Townline Road at 5182 Ridge Road. He was buried on that property but I did not investigate. There is an Isaac Warren in the 1820-US-NY-Niagara-Wilson census and Noah Cooley appears just seven entries after. Isaac Warren is a great candidate for Salome Warren's father. In the 1860 US census-NY-Niagara-Cambria there is Ezra Warren age 69, wife missing, must have died between 1850-60, Henry Warren 47, Sarah Warren 38, Mary L. Warren 9, and Charles F. Warren 3. In the 1880 census-NY-Niagara-Cambria Ezra Warren is living with his son Henry and his family. He died that same year. Andrew Cooley bought land in 1827 in Oakland Co Michigan but I don't think Salome Warren was there until after 1830 because New York was the birthplace of her firstborn son. Andrew, Salome, and four kids migrated to Clayton County Iowa in 1837. Lots of New Yorkers traveled to Michigan AFTER the Erie Canal opened in 1825 (one would think with the Canal open there was now a route to the Port of New York for their goods, nope). It is possible that all Warrens of Niagara County can be traced back to Ezra. I hope this helps, at least a little. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. In particular the family of William WARREN and Rachel LEWIS Warren located in the 1860 census of Brockway Township, St. Clair County, Michigan. William and Rachel Warren appear to have moved from New York(possibly Niagara County) to Michigan. The children of William and Rachel WARREN are listed as Truman, Herbert, James and Sarah. Records including Trumans death certificate and census records state he was born in New York in 1849. Rachel's parents were Moses and Ann LEWIS. The LEWIS family was located in the 1840 Federal census in Niagara County, New York. The LEWIS family also moved to Brockway Township, St. Clair County Michigan according to the 1850 census. The children of Moses and Ann Lewis are Rachel, Abigail, Angeline, Elisha, Margaret, Catherine, and Mary. According to the 1850 census all the LEWIS children with the exception of Rachel were born in New York. If you have any i! nformation on the WARREN or LEWIS families, please contact me.
