    1. [NYNIAGAR] NYSCOGO - New Mailing List - N.Y. STATE COUNCIL OF GENEALOGICAL ORGANIZATIONS
    2. SBurch
    3. A new mailing list has been approved by Rootsweb to represent the interests of genealogists and genealogy organizations in New York State. The list has been initiated by the N.Y. STATE COUNCIL OF GENEALOGICAL ORGANIZATIONS. NYSCOGO was formed in 1991 to facilitate communication between genealogical and historical groups. NYSCOGO provides a forum for local and state-wide action and interest in the genealogical field. Any genealogical organization in New York State is eligible for membership, which entitles the naming of two delegates who serve as the link between NYSCOGO and the individual society. "Genealogical organization" is defined as any organization that considers itself to have a genealogical function, including, but not limited to, genealogical, lineage and historical societies, libraries or archives with local history and genealogical collections. Though we hope that your group will be interested in membership to NYSCOGO, membership is not necessary for participation on this list. It is our wish that a Rootsweb mailing list will provide a more convenient and expedient forum for discussion, communication and sharing - meeting only twice a year can not provide as great an opportunity to communicate. * *Subscribing.* Clicking on one of the shortcut links below should work, but if your browser doesn't understand them, try these manual instructions: to join *NYSCOGO-L*, send mail to NYSCOGO-L-request@rootsweb.com <mailto:NYSCOGO-L-request@rootsweb.com> with the single word /subscribe/ in the message subject and body. To join *NYSCOGO-D,* do the same thing with NYSCOGO-D-request@rootsweb.com. <mailto:NYSCOGO-D-request@rootsweb.com> o Subscribe to NYSCOGO-L <mailto:NYSCOGO-L-request@rootsweb.com?subject=subscribe&body=subscribe> o Subscribe to NYSCOGO-D (digest) <mailto:NYSCOGO-D-request@rootsweb.com?subject=subscribe&body=subscribe>

I contacted the NCGS today and the person that answered the phone was not familiar with this set of information. Author: hilsenrita Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.niagara/3478.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: What a surprise this is. My name is Rita Finley Hilsen and I was born and raised in Niagara Falls, New York. My father, Herbert Ned Finley, practiced dentistry for 39 yesars in a building he had built on Main Street there-- from 1940-1979 (6 months before he died)Rosemary McGuire was his only dental assistant almost the whole time. She was a part of our family. She used to babysit my sister and me. I even have many photographs of her. I loved her and want to know how she died (I was married and had moved to Ne York city in l967.)Rosemary never married, and was a deeply practicing Catholic who never missed mass and was well known in her church. She was tall and very slender, and had bbeen orphaned quite young when her parents both died of tuberculosis. Her two brothers, as far as I know, had nothing to do with her for some reason. She was a heavy smoker (did she develop lung cancer?). She and her first cousin, Ann Fell, lived a great many years together on Whitney Avenue, in what had been my parents' first home after they were married, the home to which they took me when I was born (12/23/41. Ann Fell, who was quite heavy, worked at Jenss Department Store for many, many years, and watched over her only living parent, her elderly father, until his death around the time of my father's (who was much younger). I remember Rosemary being devastated that she lost her uncle and her boss around the same time. There is an interesting "scandal" surrounding Ann, which I will tell you about if you want to hear it and tell me so in your answer. It wouldn't be a scandal any more, but at the time was quite a story. Ann, too, never married, but... and therein lies the "scandal." After what happened,Rosemary was too shocked and angry ever to live again with Ann. When my father died, Rosemary went to work in a Niagara Falls super market. Then we lost touch, but I have wonderful memories of her still. Would love to hear from you. The man and woman at the left hand side of the photo are Michael and Ursula Fura of Lockport, NY. The couple on the right hand side of the picture are possibly my great-grandparents, Jacob and Katarzyna Jez of North Tonawanda, NY. Katarzyna and Ursula were sisters. I would like to identify the other people in the photo. The photo was taken around 1920, I think. Any help would be appreciated. 3. Because Hartland is close to Orleans County you might try the cemeteries there as well.  Fortunately, Orleans County has an excellent GenWeb site with much information, including cemeteries.  It is the best GenWeb I have used.  In fact, there is even a section in it about Niagara County cemetery connections. I agree with Evelyn Cooper that the first place to check for Hartland burials would be the Hartland Cemetery. Have you contacted the Niagara County Historian's Office. Hope this is of some help. ----- Original Message ---- > From: Evelyn Cooper <ebcooper@gwi.net> > To: nyniagar@rootsweb.com > Sent: Tue, March 1, 2011 1:45:01 PM > Subject: Re: [NYNIAGAR] Hartland Cemeteries > > >   Bev, >   These  two web sites have niagara county cemeteries, but alas none are >   complete. 1. [NYNIAGAR] need info on the marriage of david wagner and Mary Swartz elsworth address 1818 ontario ave. Niagara falls, ny
    2. Joan Meddaugh
    3. I am looking for information regarding David Wagner and Mary Swartz Elsworth of Niagara Falls, NY David was a printer and Mary was a bookkeeper for a while. They married sometime between 1945-1948 in Niagara Falls. I am most interested in finding out if she was listed on her marriage license as divorced or widowed. She was living at the time at 1818 Ontario Ave. in Niagara Falls. I am also interested to find out when the building was bought by her brother James L. Swartz of Niagara Falls for his mother Nora (Honora) (Schwartz Swartz). I know it was between June of 1925 and June of 1930 but would like to know exactly when. My understanding is that by 1930 Mary and her mother Nora and Mary's sister Marjorie and her husband Marion Scott and their daughter June were also living there. And that the home was a boarding house. Nora was my grandmother making Mary and David my aunt and uncle. They died respectively in 1960 and 1981 or 84. Any information you can provide is greatly appreciated.
