    2. Charlene Stevens
    3. Hi, I am trying to find information on the burial of a 4 year old girl named Frances Blackmer. She fell overboard on a canal boat near Amsterdam, NY July 27, 1893. Newspaper article says she was put on a train the next morning for Middleport, NY. My question: What funeral home was in Middleport area in 1893 and where might she be buried? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Charlene Stevens

They also have a George Brown age 20 living with them which lends itself to my gggrandfather's middle name. Maybe he is a younger brother to Elizabeth...don't know. Anyway, I know the ages don't match up but I thought it was interesting that it matched your scrapbook notes. Sure would love to find out if this is my John's family. This has been a deadend for my family for such a long time. My father did a DNA test and he matches perfectly to Cpt Nathanial Seeley. He's definitely a direct descendant. I just don't know how he connects to the family. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I'm still not sure that the scrapbook says Amelia (sic) Emma and John ARE siblings or if that is just more "random notes" by my great uncle. My cousin with custody of it called them siblings but whether by specific designation or inference, I don't know. I'm stuck on seeing Mary M, of the right age, in the Orin Seeley hh in the 1850 Census in Niagara Co. By the 1851 Canada census she and James are with his dad, Smith, in Ontario. We have that they married in 1852, she is Shotwell on census and that's bugged me but I just noticed the "residence in 1852" heading maybe means the Canadians took their 1851 Census in 1852?? I don't find the 1860 Census for MN you mention - I search both Mary and James and don't have it come up. How do you search?? I'd found the 1870 and 1880 ones. My e-mail is Nonnylou@aol.com if you'd be so kind as to send it. I'm off, ironically, for a genealogy session at a local library today. Things are happening so fast this week that my head IS spinning. Thx for your input/help and I'll certainly let you know what I find. nls Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. For your records, I found the following census records for Mary M. Shotwell and Mary M. Sheldon, I'm sure they are your ancestor. 1860 Nicollet Co, MN, Courtland township image 4 of 8. 1870 Erie Co, NY, Boston township image 35 of 42. 1880 Erie Co, NY, Boston township image 7 of 34. Sometimes I can't see the forest for the trees. I know Mary M is buried in Colden NY (I was there in October and have picture of marker, which has simply the years of birth and death. Oddly it has her name as Sheldon (she'd remarried after James Morgan Shotwell died in Civil War) and "Nee-Shotwell" which is wrong PLUS very misleading! I checked with the town clerk in Colden (since this is a very OLD cemetery) and she was quite unhelpful - simply spitting out at me that all they'd know was what was on the stone - no additional records. Genealogy questions must just be a sore point for her or something. She wasn't oozing any of the small town friendliness I'd expected. It was just recently that new cousin, with this precious scrapbook info, mentioned that late in her life she'd lived in Boston NY (near Colden) until moving to Buffalo to live with her son James Franklin Shotwell until her death. At THAT point I s/h thought of seeking a death cert from Bflo. I will do that in the morning and advise. Thanks!! Question - do you know that your Adelia (not Amelia?) had a sister Mary M or are you taking that from what I put out here? Just curious. If she died in Buffalo in 1905, the certificate should be available and may show the names of her parents. I am researching her sister, Adelia (Seeley) Dalrymple, but don't think NY will give me the record of Mary Shotwell unless I am a direct descendant. The fee is $10 for the certificate. You must enclose your relationship to the deceased, a SASE, and a copy of a picture ID. Author: NONNYLOU1 Surnames: Seeley, Seelye, Shotwell Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.niagara/433.429.2.1.1.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm "Nancy come lately" here but have just started hashing over family info with a newly found distant Shotwell cousin. He has his great grandfather's scrapbook that is sometimes vague and confusing. My Gr greatgrandmother was Mary Matilda Seeley, born 6 Oct 1833 and died 14 Nov 1905 in Buffalo (she'd married James Morgan Shotwell, lived in Ontario, MI, IL, MN and Erie Co NY) purported in this scrapbook to have been born in Poverty Ridge, Niagara Co. I find a Mary M, of the right age, in the Orin Seeley (Seelye) household in the 1850 census in Porter. BUT Scrapbook says Mary M had sisters Amelia and Emma and a brother John and the Orin household does not have any of them. Scrapbook has that Amelia married Mr Dalrympl and had Louis and Catherine, maybe in IL. Emma married Mr Gould and had Ruth and John. Also mentions an uncle Eben or Ebenezer and Napoleon Seeley and a grist mill at Johnson's Creek, which I find mentioned in a history of Hartland, Niagara Co. I'm laying all this out here to see if it helps anyone else AND vice versa. I'm thinking that that scrapbook, done in the 1930s, may have some "leads" but not necessarily proven facts, as my cousin calls some of the info "random notes on the Seeley page" and I may be right with the Orin Seeley family. Would love to hear any thoughts!! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
