    3. Dear Group, For the MOMENT, my mind is among the living and I thought I would share with you part of my personal response to Evelyn regarding the song "Milkman, Keep Those Bottle Quiet." And, Oh, that song! It was WWII and in my fuzzy mind, I seem to recall that it was about a Defense worker on the night shift who was trying to sleep through the very early morning hours. And in those years, the milk man delivered milk before the break of day. luvya, vee

    3. Dear Listers, I sent this to Vee and she suggested I share it with the group, perhaps leaving out my comments to her. Rather here is the whole shebang! Evelyn ----- Vee, Sorry I didn't take the time to write to find out how you were doing. You have been in my prayers and thoughts, but as I tell folks who say that to me "I had no way of knowing that!" May I take a moment and share one of my recent memories. Back on Labor Day I was sitting here reading one of your memories (I do love them!!) and listening to my favorite AM radio station here in Colorado Springs, KCMN. I have a tape recorder next to it so as to catch some of those fun songs of yesteryear for my children and granddaughters to listen to one day. Anyway, sitting here enjoying some time to myself, when I hear some familiar words, then the song they're in. I get up and press record while listening to "Milkman Keep Those Bottles Quiet". I was amazed at what I was hearing. Gees, all these years I thought that cute little ditty my sister(who was about 8) and I (at 4) sung, well, that we made it up. But here I was listening to someone singing it. I was both amazed and joyful, for at that moment I was a 4-year-old again, back there in that big, ole brick and wood house on the Lake Road west of Somerset. Later I called the station and the receptionist got back with me with the singer's name. Don't know the date of recording. But for a while that Monday morning I was a little girl again and it was wonderful. I felt younger all day long. Memories are a wonderful medicine, so when you're feeling a little more together mentally (and I have many a day when I'm spacey) I look forward to reading them. 3. I just checked out an interesting web site, which I think a lot of you will find "phat" (is that a correct useage, Vee?). Take a look at: <www.niagara-usa.com/pages/apples.htm>. It is written by the current County Historian, Mr. David Dickinson. (I say current because the wonderful politians of this county and state have messed up again. Since they know sooo much about history, they decided that the position had to be civil service. Then they wrote an exam much of which was not appropriate. Now there is a debate as to whether or not Mr. Dickinson may continue in the job because he didn't pass in the top 3! Rather than having anything move smoothly, in this county, we now wait for the Big Decision in come down from Albany.) Can you hear me screaming? Please hold him up in prayer or whatever you do to find answers and peace. Thanks. In the meantime...he can be located at: <David.Dickinson@niagaracounty.com> Enjoy and eat New York State apples! 3. Posted on: Niagara Co. NY Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/NY/Niagara/293 Surname: Zielinski, Klaus, Zarzycki, Zazycki, Grzesiak ------------------------- I'm currently researching family who emigrated to the Western New York area from the portion of Eastern Europe that includes present-day Poland. Family members include the following: Joseph ZIELINSKI, who emigrated in 1912 to North Tonawanda, Niagara County, New York, from Sochachew, Russian Poland. Andrew and Mary KLAUS, who emigrated in about 1890 from Prussian Poland. They came first to Texas, then to St. Louis, Missouri, and finally to North Tonawanda, Niagara County, NY. I don't know the exact year of their arrival in North Tonawanda, but I believe it was about 1898. John ZARZYCKI (sometimes spelled ZAZYCKI, who I believe was from the area around Warsaw; I don't know the year of his emigration but he was living in Buffalo, NY by 1901, and subsequently moved to North Tonawanda, NY. Veronica GRZESIAK, who emigrated first to Buffalo, NY in 1897 and then subsequently moved to North Tonawanda, NY. If anyone has any information on these individuals or their families and would like to collaborate, I'd be delighted to share what information I have.

    3. Dear Chris, et al, Yes, I'm OK. Or at least as OK for someone who is still having difficulty coping with the recuperation process of a radical mastecomy performed over a month ago. Progress is being made but at such a SLOW pace. Can't Mommy just kiss the boo boo and make it go away?? :-) But trust me, I'm totally impressed with the loving professional care I'm being given. Twice every day in the week Visiting Nurses come to my house to change my dressings and three times a week an Aide comes in to do things for me that I still can't do for myself--whether it be scrubbing my back in the shower or scrubbing my kitchen floor! Now frankly, all of these dear people are cluttering up my life with their poking and prodding and scrubbing, but next week it will be even more cluttered when I'll be periodically visited by an Occupational Therapist who will help me excercise my left arm that I haven't used very much due to the painful surgery. Gee, I'm sure looking forward to THAT! :-( Now here's a message for all of you taxpayers out there. The cost of ALL of the above care that I'm receiving at home is totally covered by MEDICARE (Plan A)--no cost to me. Until this happened to me, I didn't realize the importance of Social Security deductions from my paychecks over the years. Now I know, and maybe some of you others on the list now know. It's an agonizingly slow healing process, however, and it has sapped my mental strength. (I swear they also did a complete frontal lobotomy on me in surgery when I wasn't looking! :-)) Therefore, I'm still pretty much a mental zombie for most of the entire day with the few exceptions of moments like this one. I'm sooooo looking forward to the day when my sanity returns and I can get back to posting meaningful messages to the list on the subjects that are important to all of us--the genealogy and history of Niagara County. Chris, thanks for letting me know that you were thinking of me. I NEEDED that! :-) vee ----- Original Message ----- From: Chris Leonard <cleonardca@earthlink.net> To: <NYNIAGAR-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, September 23, 2000 11:00 PM Subject: vee > haven't seen any messages from vee... > > are you ok, vee? or am i missing some messages? just wanted you to know i > was thinking of you and hoping you're ok! > > love > > chris > > > ==== NYNIAGAR Mailing List ==== > Looking for a dead-end Niagara County ancestor? They removed to Lockport/Niagara County in about 1821. Asa is listed in Pendleton in 1830, 40, and 50, but in 1850, has a wife named Lucy. We are looking for evidence of the woman named Azuba who we believe was his first wife -- a death record would be wonderful -- a birth date stupendous, though we believe she was b. ca 1786.
