    3. I can't thank everyone enough for the wonderful and detailed responses I got regarding Bell Aircraft Factory in WWII. It seems it was a topic others enjoyed, and in this I'm very glad.....I have contacted Bell Textron, and I'll let everyone know if the records still exist somewhere. So now I have another question......were there phone books back then? I'm trying to piece together their mother's existence before they left Niagara Falls....they were really little, and have had no info for 60 yrs. I thought perhaps I could find an address of where they lived and take a picture next time I'm home. I'm the granddaughter of their mother's brother (she was abt. 25 yrs. younger than he) and they just found me on the internet....There are still members of my family living there, but petty squabbles broke the family up years ago, and they aren't forth coming with info at all. Anyone on this list from Niagara Falls and belong to St. Mary's of the Catarac? A note for you........there's an older cemetery pre-Gate of Heaven-that the diocese has not kept up that few know abt. But the caretaker there has great knowledge and is a wonderful guy......do contact him if you think you may have Catholic ancestors there. Thank you so very much, again, for your generous contributions. I never asked her how she got to work, but it was a long commute since she lived on the Niagara-Orleans County Line Road. Thanks Rebecca Ott Rochester, New York

    3. tried to send this twice privately but both times it bounced, said the mailbox was disabled...saw a post from vee on the list so i hope she gets this! -------- hi vee, i've been going through some health problems myself--just had an ultrasound to see if i had gallstones; i don't, but i still have to figure out what's causing the pain and indigestion--so i haven't been paying much attention to my email, but i've been thinking of you and concerned that i haven't seen any email from you. but i haven't seen much at all from the Niagara Co. list, so maybe there's some problem with my mail. i know how draining health problems are. i hope you're taking care of yourself and getting the best possible medical care. as you know i'm not a big fan of conventional medicine, even at its best it often leaves out the 'mind' part of the bodymind connection. i know you have a strong faith to sustain you, and good friends. i just hope that as you heal you are getting your emotional as well as physical needs met, because i'm convinced that in the end it's our emotions--the mind--that decides if the body's going to get better and not the other way around. if the emotional aspect of a person isn't getting sufficient nourishment, the immune system breaks down. take good care of yourself, vee, and when you're able, drop me a line! love, chris -- At that instant he saw, in one blaze of light, an image of unutterable conviction, the reason why the artist works and lives & has his being -- the reward he seeks -- the only reward he really cares about, without which there is nothing. 3. Hey Guys, What a neat message I just received from Johnny regarding Bell Aircraft! And when I read the mention of Larry Bell in the URL below, I just KNEW that he was the founder of the original Bell Aircraft Company here in Niagara Falls--right next to our present airport. WOW, I had forgotten about Bell's hellicopters! And although I knew that Bell eventually went into the supersonic age, well I guess hellicopters weren't quite as exciting as fighter planes or supersonic planes. How quickly we forget! Thanks Johnny for letting us know that the Bell company still exists. Rosie the Rivieter of WWII would have been pleased to know that she played a part in its continuing existance. vee ----- Original Message ----- From: Johnny <johnnymaynard@home.com> To: <housman@adelphia.net> Sent: Thursday, October 05, 2000 10:40 PM Subject: Re: Aircraft Factory in WWII > I have a feeling that Bell Aircraft Company has become Bell Helicopter in modern > day times. 3. Dear Amy, I was waiting for someone else to jump in and let you know that the aircraft factory where she worked was most probably Bell Aircraft Company. In the WWII years they--men and WOMEN--worked around the clock pumping out Airacobra fighting planes. And I know from PERSONAL experience that during the Blizzard of 1977 around here, the plant was still there--known then as Bell Airospace. I also know that the building is still there but somewhere down the line the company has disappeared. Now whether the employee records were kept by the company or whether they were turned over to the History Dept. of the Niagara Falls Library, or just destroyed, I just don't know. Regarding a SSN, I'm certain that any employee records would have included it. I guess I have to include this dismal end to my message. Although I haven't researched any of the above, I have the feeling that employee records were destroyed many years ago. WWII was over in 1945--55 years ago--and that glorious aircraft factory is no longer in existance. Nonetheless, I wish you good luck in your search for your family history. 3. Posted on: Niagara Co. NY Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/NY/Niagara/302 Surname: ------------------------- Dear Sharon, Your ancestors may indeed have arrived in Niagara County by way of the Erie Canal. The canal was officially opened in 1825 and toward the western end of its route it passed through the "port" towns in Niagara County, went on to North Tonawanda, Niagara Co., and ended up at its terminal in Tonawanda, Erie Co., where it met with the uppper Niagara River. From there passengers heading westward boarded lake steamers and traveled along Lake Erie and the upper Great Lakes until they reached their destination, whether it be somewhere in Ohio or Michigan. Those families who settled here in the 1830s and moved again westward would have just loaded up their wagon and driven to the area of Buffalo where they would have then unload their possessions on to a lake steamer. I hope this helps you in figuring out the migration pattern of your family. Vee Housman Youngstown, NY
