    3. Hi Annlynnd! The internet is not always a good thing. It won't be there if no one put family names in. You have to go to the LDS FHC and get microfilm and fiche. Ask for help there. Take day trips to Special Collection libraries, if able. Do join all the mailing lists, as they are most helpful. Be persistent. Give a lot of info you know on the individual and ask specifically your next step; perhaps someone can find a clue or take your research to the library with them. United German and French Roman Catholic Cemetery - UG & F RC Cemetery Continue to ask questions on the NYERIE -L people are still receiving their emails (unless they've unsubscribed) Join and enter queries on the Buffalo Eastside list. I bet even if your folks or mine didn't live on the Eastside of Buffalo that listers will still help us. Even to the Niagara list. What cemetery in Niagara County was Pluto BADER buried in, is one of my brickwalls. Zona

    2. Not at all silly, Vee. I see it as a beautiful gift to your mom, and apparently by her smile, she did too. Didn't all of us born back a then love to put on dance routines, plays, some kind of entertainment for mom and dad. Life before TV was simple and great! Evelyn -->> Is this when I pipe up and say... (a delayed reaction, but hey... here it is...) (1) thanks for the images, Vee. As usual - wonderful and warm. (2) yes, Evelyn - think we did - in several different eras it appears... (3) and now for a 50s memory.... listening to my dad's 78s... and roaming around the house ... singing loudly... with gusto if not exactly "on key"... first (and feeling very "adult")... singing "The Naughty Lady... of Shady Lane".... then rounding out the household romp by belting out "The Yellow Rose of Texas"... Strange to think of those days... just fun... (4) then there were the tap dance lessons - and the piano lessons (where the "recitals" were held in the teacher's home). We children all "froze" in the kitchen... as parents sat in the living room drinking their coffee and tea... nervously awaiting "our turn". We then had to come out - give a little "recitation" about the composer - then sit down and "play"... In this day and age... again strange to think... it was a "reward" if the teacher (a "Miss" with gray hair of course)... actually sat on the piano stool with you and you were given the "honor" of doing a duet. My, my, my..... Thanks for your stories, Vee... hope you never stop sharing them. They are the "moments" that when added up... give substance to who we are. debbie CAhobbies@aol.com

    1. The Landscape
    2. Zona I Himmelsbach
    3. "The Landscape," by Fred M. Fariss I look over the landscape of genealogy To discover the footprints Of those who went before me-- My ancestors. I am awed by their feeble attempt To speak to me Through their paper trails, photographs and hearsay Of where and how they lived. When I meet with them At the threshold of history The discovery is so exciting To reconnect. With those whom I have never seen And some whom I never knew existed It is a family reunion On the plains of imagination. It is like meeting them This side of heaven Before the grand finale Of personal passage. The sad note is The wall That stands as a divider Between me and them, yet to be discovered. There is always hope Of another discovery Today—maybe--tomorrow On the landscape of genealogy. ____________________________________________________________________ Thanks to Fred for sharing this with us! 1. Archiving Messages--IT WORKS!
    2. Vee L. Housman
    3. Dear Groups, Last evening I sent a message to both the NYNIAGARA list and the PADUTCH-LIFE list asking for help in archiving email messages and I got excellent help from Jim Tremble from the Niagara List and Joe Hastings from the PD list. As a result I combined the advice from both of them and I've been spending the entire day having a ball whittling down the enormous buildup of messages on my hard drive and have about half of them installed just beautifully on my ZIP drive. Rather than my posting the detailed instructions to either/or both lists, just email me personally and by tomorrow I'll be able to put together a step-by-step instruction message that could be entitled "Archiving for Dummies." Thanks a million to both Jim and Joe. You guys really came through in a hurry! vee

    3. The full version of Outlook has an archival feature. Outlook Express does not. There is not a way to archive old email in Outlook Express. 3. Al How wrong you are on this topic. I use Outlook Express ver. 5.0 and I save all of me important email to zipdisk once a month. I did not want to post this to the list as it does not apply to genealogy. I have sent instructions to Vee and to Evelyn. I am waiting to here back from them as to how it worked for them. If anyone wants to know how to do this, contact me off list and I would be happy to help. Jim > The full version of Outlook has an archival feature. Outlook Express does > not. 3. Dear Group, What with all of the wonderful messages that I've received over the past number of months, I've found that I just can't bring myself to delete any of them. As a result, they're still on my computer taking up a LOT of space. What I want to do is to copy all of the messages in all of my folders and save them onto a ZIP disk. That way I could delete all but the most recent ones and free up a bunch of megabytes. This evening I was able to at least find where the individual folders (where I file my email messages) on my C drive and I was hoping that I could just copy the contents of the files onto a ZIP disk. Well, I found them in C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook Express but all of the folders have the extention .DBX and I can't access them into a word processing program so that I can read them. I use Microsoft Outlook Express as my email program(?) and if any of you have had any success in copying onto disk the whole lot, I'd appreciate some advice. Yes, I know that I could cut and paste each and every email into a word processing program but even if I had all the time in the world to go through each and every one, all that I've been able to manage to do is select only the body of the message, which doesn't include who it was from nor the date. Help???? vee

    3. Posted on: Niagara Co. NY Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/NY/Niagara/432 Surname: DUNN, BLUNT, CRANDELL ------------------------- I have considered this possibility, then found "Ireland" as place of birth on the 1850 Lockport census listing of Thomas BLUNT, Elizabeth's father. He was a soldier of the War of 1812, and lived near Charlton, Saratoga Co., NY at the time, and probably until 1840. Elizabeth is listed as born in NY. Thanks for trying - remote possibility "Ireland" might be incorrect, I suppose.
