    2. evelyn cooper
    3. Forwarded from the Monroe County Mailing List by permission. Rochester, Monroe, NY Union & Advertiser Mon Oct 6, 1862 THE CELEBRATED HORSE "ETHAN ALLEN" INJURED. - The Niagara (Suspension Bridge) Herald of Saturday says: "On Monday the celebrated trotting stallion Ethan Allen, for whom the owner had but the day before refused $3,000, while at the stock yards took fright at the cars and started down towards the bridge with a sulky attached to him. At the depot he was turned aside by a long ladder which was held up, when he came in contact with a dirt train standing there, tearing the sulky in fragments. Following the track he ran on the bridge across Spring Avenue, which, not being planked, he fell through between the stringers, bruising him very badly. This is the second time that horses have been injured by running upon the same bridge, and we suggest that if it would not be well to place the gates at the east end of the structure? As for $8,000 invested in horse flesh -- if we had him we should want to keep selling him, as an unlucky scratch might cost about $2,000 -- which is quite too expensive."

    3. Forwarded from the Monroe County Mailing List by permission. Surnames: HOAG, KLEINE, YATES, TAYLOR, FARNELL, NICHOLS Rochester, Monroe, NY Democrat & Chronicle Tue July 10, 1894 NIAGARA The Suspension Bridge Collectorship -- Disappointed Candidates' Threats --The grocery store of Ex-Alderman George M. HOAG, of Lockport, has been closed on a chattel mortgage. --Walter J. KLEINE, of Lockport, has been awarded the free scholarship to Cornell University. Mr. KLEINE passed highest in the competition examination from this county. --Charles H. YATES, an insurance agent of Lockport, has been arrested on a charge of grand larceny, preferred by a Niagara Falls man, who claims that YATES attempted to swindle him in an insurance deal. It is said that several more charges are pending. He has been admitted to bail. --After an almost unbearable suspense, to some of Lockport's prominent politicians, the Suspension Bridge collectorship question has been disposed of and Lockport is to be congratulated on securing the plum. Edward J. TAYLOR, whose nomination with several others, was sent to the senate yesterday, was born here in 1856 and, with the exception of one year spent in Colorado, has since resided here. He was given three years of a high school education and then studied law in the office of William FARNELL. He was admitted to the bar in 1880 and has since by hard untiring labor attained a large and paying practice. Owing to the increase of business Charles L. NICHOLLS, a prominent young lawyer, was admitted as a partner last January. Mr. TAYLOR is highly elated over his glorious victory and is receiving congratulations upon all sides. But there now remains that which was inevitable from the start, the sore and vengeful party whose man was defeated, and if the work of this party is to be relied upon, the outcome of the next election will be a more glorious victory for the Republicans than the previous one. Mr. NICHOLLS will probably conduct the legal business during Mr. TAYLOR's term of office. ----<>---- Find all the transcribed Monroe Co., NY Early News articles at http://www.rootsweb.com/~nymonnws/

This would have been in the 1850's. There were seems to be multiple Ziehl families in this area. Always trying to go one more step back.
