It was heartbreaking to see so many headstones damaged. Many of the headstones knocked over and totally ruined were all to the rear of the cemetery where viewers from the street would not be able to notice anything happening. I just hope the city of Lockport does not put this in a dead end file but continues to work to find the vandals who desecrated these sacred burial places and put these dirt bags in prison where they belong! 3. Anita, Here is what I have from the Oct 2, 1882 Lockport Daily Journal: Wm. J. Walker The above named gentleman, father of Wm. Walker of this city, died yesterday, October 1st., of heart disease, aged seventy years. He was born in England, and had lived in this country ten years. The funeral will occur at 2 P. M. tomorrow, from his son's house, on Mulberry Street. Interment at Cold Springs Cemetery. He is also listed in the 1880 Federal Census of Lockport with his wife Jane, his son Willam James Walker, and a daughter, Rhoda Walker. I am descended from another of his sons, William John Walker, who died in 1895. I had no problem finding the tombstone of William John Walker and his wife, and most of his siblings. Hope this helps. 1. [NYNIAGAR] Heary in Lockport, NY
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Annette07 Surnames: Heary Classification: cemetery Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.niagara/3159/mb.ashx Message Board Post: A few months ago I was in St. Patrick's cemetery in Lockport, NY getting some photos of family markers. Because our family has a link with one person by the name of Peter Heary, I took photos of several Heary tombstones that could be a possible connection. When I ran into the caretaker, he directed me to the correct grave of the Peter Heary I was searching for. Therefore, I happen to have pictures of some Heary monuments that are no longer of any interest for me to keep. One picture is that of a large tombstone with the name Heary inscribed on the front. Behind it are several smaller markers. One that reads: Delia. Another picture is a fallen stone that reads: Peter Heary Born July 1, 1816, Margaret Oneill His Wife Born May 6, 1818, Died Oct 9, 1889. On the side of that marker is the name of a daughter which isn't totally readable since it has sunk into the ground after falling. What I can make out of it reads: Daughter of (Blank) M. Heary Born Feb. 28, 1857, Died Sept. 13, 1888. There is also pictures of two other taller monuments. One is not readable from the picture and the other is fallen backward down a hill. I thought it was vandalism that caused it to be fallen, but the caretaker claims that it was a result of gravity on the side of the hill (although he claims that they have had extreme cases of vandalism in t! he cemetery lately). If any of these gravestones belongs to anyone in the Heary line here, let me know and I'll be happy to email you any or all of the photos.. The website lists it as: "WNY MARRIAGE ABSTRACTS Mosscrop, Joseph & Jemima Gibson June 1, 1851** **abstracts from Lockport, Niagara Co., NY http://www.angelfire.com/ny/WNYSampson/marriages.html" So it could well be abstracted from news papers or church records. >From 1871 cthrough 1901 they belong to the Church of England according to Canadian census information so Church of England Marriage records would be likely source. If anyone else knows more please let me know. I am much more familiar with Ontario records. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The information had to come from church records or a local newspaper. If it was a newspaper your local library may be able to order a microfilm from the NY State Library for you. Below is a link. http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/nysnp/ Best way to obtain church records other than locally is from your nearest FHC. Both sources may or maynot have his parents information. At least you have a starting place with the date and location information. Don Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The following marriage is for my gg grandparents: WNY MARRIAGE ABSTRACTS Mosscrop, Joseph & Jemima Gibson June 1, 1851** **abstracts from Lockport, Niagara Co., NY http://www.angelfire.com/ny/WNYSampson/marriages.html I found it on line and email to the poster goes undelivered. I would like to get a copy of the record and have written to the clerk's offices and been told the records there do not go that far back. Does anyone have know where records from 1851 are stored and how I can access them? Also do you know what information would likely be included on the records of that era? Jemima was visiting in NY at the time and I think this is Joseph in 1850. They later left the U.S. 1850 U. S. Census June 1, 1850 Lockport, Niagra, NY Family 1766 Joseph Moscrop 22 a labourer born in England is living in the household of Edmund Phelps, age 41, farmer. Edmond Phelps and his 2 children were born in Conn and his likely was was born in NY. There is also a Julia Griffin 20 born in Ireland living there. Much thanks for and information or advice that you could offer. What I really want to find is Joseph's birthplace and parents names.
