I have received the following plea and I'm hoping someone on the lists can help.. Nancy ----------------------------- I am asking you -- as someone with far more knowledge than I in genealogical research and with far more contacts in that field than I -- for help in spreading the word within genealogical circles that the New York Correction History Society seeks to establish contact with families connected to the 101 persons aboard Northeast Airlines Flight 823 that crashed on Rikers Island one minute after takeoff from LaGuardia Airport the windy, snowy evening of Feb. 1, 1957. Twenty of the 101 persons aboard were killed but 81 survived with the help from brave Correction staffers and inmates who responded to the fiery scene. A 50th anniversary commemorative presentation on our New York Correction History Society web site -- _www.correctionhistory.org_ (http:// www.correctionhistory.org/) -- includes a page listing all those aboard Flight 823 as well as pages telling the stories of two families personally connected to Flight 823 passengers. The family story pages are entitled "The Andersons of Canada remember" (Joy and Hartley Anderson) and "Remembering Mario DeRosa." I am working on third and fourth family pages -- respectively with the Esther and Gregory Chopelas family and the Alexander Ball family.. But there are 97 other such family stories that might be told if only their members knew that a commemorative web presentation seeks to include them. If you could use your good offices to spread word of this within genealogical research circles, I would be most appreciative and perhaps the number of Flight 823 families participating in the commemoration would grow. The Rikers air crash icon on our home page -- _www.correctionhistory.org_ (http://www.correctionhistory.org/) -- accesses the first of 10 web pages in the presentation. Each page has links to the other 9 pages, including the one listing the names of those aboard Flight 823. For your convenience, I have attached a text file that breaks down the list by communities. For the list as it appear in the web presentation, see _http://www.correctionhistory.org/html/chronicl/rikersaircrash/1957rikersaircr ash4.html_ (http://www.correctionhistory.org/html/chronicl/rikersaircrash/1957rikersaircrash4.html) Thank you.
