    3. Thank you Nina - I wonder why he wasn't on the 1930 census then? Interesting! IS this information on-line anywhere? I would be interested to track James McKinney over the next few years to see if he was still at Amsterdam Ave. Fiona. I would like to find out who the homeowner was at 6 Amsterdam Avenue, NY. This was the address given for James McKinney on his WWII draft card but he isn't there on the 1930 census. Thanks, Fiona. 3. I discovered that entry over at www.ancestry.com (NY Directories) I also came across this which you may already have WW1 draft registration (see below) This seems to be the correct James McKinney as he once again (as in his WW2 registration) names Cavanagh as his closest *person*. Again, the address for him and Cavanagh is the same. Possibly if you do a comprehensive search for Catherine (Mrs John I imagine) and John Cavanagh you may be able to find James McKinney with them/her? World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918 Name:James McKinney City:Manhattan County:New York State:New York Address: 137 W 63rd St NYC Birth Date:25 1883 Race:White Roll:1766128 DraftBoard:121 Age: 34 Occupation: Stationary Firstman Nearest Relative: Mrs. John Cavanagh (friend) 137 W 63rd St NYC Height/Build: medium / medium Color of Eyes/Hair: blue / brown Signature: yes In 1910 John and Catherine Cavanagh live on E 52nd, married 3 years, no children. No James McKinney either. She was born abt 1876, NJ, parents Ireland John is a salesman of groceries. Looks like 1920 they are on W 113th. No James (maybe my theory was wrong after all <g>) John is now listed as a chauffeur, self employed. No children and now it says Catherine b. in Ireland. This is of course assuming I have the right couple here but the info matches very closely between 1910 and 1920 (ages) No trace in 1930 of either, maybe need to play with bizarre spellings. For directories, best I could find were the holdings at the NY State Library in Albany but there must be NYC Directories at the NYC Library or on film or fiche. Someone here must know the answer to that. http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/genealogy/citydir.htm NEW YORK, NY City Directory 1665, 1786 -1787, 1789 -1860/61 (fiche) There are two sets of microfilm: A) 1786 -1787, 1789 - 1924/25, 1931, 1933/34; B) 1861 -1901/02 NEW YORK, NY Telephone Books 1912 - 1915, 1934 - 1974, 1976 - 1987, (film) Hope this helps, Nina ----- Original Message ----- From: Fiona Jones To: nynewyor@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, September 23, 2007 9:33 PM Subject: Re: [NYNEWYOR] street directories 1931 McKinney Jas 6 Amst av Thank you Nina - I wonder why he wasn't on the 1930 census then?
