>From the NYC grooms index at www.italiangen.org, a Phillip Sherrer married in Manhattan 1 Oct 1882 (manhattan certificate #16519). Could that be your Phillip? Also if you order the death index film for 1885 from Salt Lake, you could look for the two 1885 death certificate numbers. Or, since you have burial dates, it should be easy for the Municipal Archives to find the death certificates for you. For the 1890 Manhattan Police Census, you must know the address to determine which census volume you want. I'm not familiar with what is on Ancestry for it, but genealogy libraries generally have the book (whose name and author I've forgotten) which matches addresses to the appropriate census volume and LDS microfilm. Good luck, J Torre ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sue Maxwell" <suemaxwell@comcast.net> Subject: Re: [NYNEWYOR] 1895 census for NYC His name was Phillip Scherrer, son of Peter Scherrer and Elizabeth Pohle Scherrer. There were 6 Peter Scherrerrs in NYC at the time. Peter was a blacksmith and after Phillips death, it looks like they developed a livery and funeral business in a different part of town, and all moved out of the area they were in- Scherrer Brothers- some of the older boys becoming a part of it and possibly a brother or two.. Phillip was born about 1858, and had the following siblings, whom you can only find on the 1880 census- Barbara, George, Mary, Evangeline, Anne, Edward, and a William who missed on that census. Phillip died at 935 9th Ave and was interred on August 6, 1885, and the baby, Ernst, died at 931 9th Ave, and was interred on July 12, 1885. ( looks like the baby died first, not later) and his ; the mother was interred Aug 18, 1878, address being 633 9th Ave. There are some variations in their 9th Ave address in the city directories. I don't know if this means they owned several buildings or it was just an error in the directory. I know all of the marriages except William. Now I don't know Phillips. Sue
That might fit, but he is of German extraction- his father was German and his mother from Alsace-Lorraine. Is this Phillip Italian?
