Hello, listers, I am looking for birth certificate information for an ALBERT E. HOLMES, born in NY ca. 1868. I have found him on Manhattan census records, but what I really would like to know is who his parents were. From there, hopefully, I might be able to find out if he had an aunt that I just cannot find! What I now have is: a JULIA HAY, who on one of her children's birth certificates says her maiden name was HOLMES. One of Julia's grandsons lived with Albert, so - that's why I'm looking for more info on that particular Holmes family. Are these people related? Difficult, I know, but - isn't that what genealogy is all about? I would be so thrilled if someone would be able to help me with this request. You indicate you have found him on Manhattan census records, but you don't indicate what census years you already have found. Finding him in the 1870 or 1880 census is a probable way of determining his father's name and his mother's first name. An Albert of the right age is enumerated in Brooklyn in 1870 with parents John and Addie HOLMES.
