Regarding access to New York City divorce indexes (all boroughs), Genealogical Resources in New York, published by the Jewish Genealogical Society, says: "Matrimonial records less than 100 years old may only be viewed by the parties or their attorneys. The indexes are open to the public." I have no experience with the Kings County clerk's office, but I did request an index search from the New York County clerk's office. The cost was $5 for each two-year period. Search requests must be in writing, and the fee must be paid in advance; they do not accept personal checks or credit cards. A request for a search of the New York County divorce index is sent to the Mail Unit, New York County Clerk, 60 Centre St., New York 10007. The address of the Kings County clerk's office is 360 Adams St., Brooklyn 11201. I do not know which unit in the Kings County clerk's office would handle a divorce index search. Bear in mind that the divorce index contains only the parties' names, the date of filing, and the case number.
