Kate, she was born Elizabeth Short b. 05 Jan 1840 in London, England. Helen Barry is her stage name. One of our family members has found records about her acting career in newspaper articles from London and New York - and marriage information. We have a few photographs of her also. But after her husband Harry Bolam died we do not know if she went back on the stage again in the USA or London or what happened to her -- the only other reference we have is that she was presumable in London for the court case in 1892. I don't know what the court case was about. One website on Stage personnel has her dates as 1840-1906 but I don't know where the 1906 comes from. (_http://footlightnotes.tripod.com/_ (http://footlightnotes.tripod.com/) ) I do not have any census records or other records for her. My ancestor was Elizabeth Short (maiden name) she had been previously married to Alexander Rolls. She was an actress who went under the name of Helen Barry. I do not know which name she may have used when she married Harry George Bolam. In the Obituary Notes of the New York Times of 24 March 1883 announced that her husband H. S. Bolam had died suddenly of pneumonia on 23 March 1883, after they had just arrived in the US. So presumably she had remarried in 1882– 83. He was described as late of Little Ingeatre, Stafford and 12 St James’ s Place, London. In a court case in 1892 she is named Helen Bolam. In 1891 she leased a home in Bellport Long Island - I do not know if she had remarried or was living there under the name of Elizabeth or Helen - Bolam or another name. I do not know if she died in the USA (NY) or London (England) but am interested in contacting any relative of Harry George Bolam as I am trying to find any information for my ancestor. Hi- I saw on the Google News Archives, that Harry Bolam did die in New York, of pneumonia, according to the part of the obituary I could see. It appears she was in the States to act in 1895, according to an article in a Washington State paper of February 23, 1895. It was also in the Philadelphia Inquirer.
