Peg, I can't answer your question about ED & AD. I wonder whether you've been able to do a wildcard search (for example, searching on LAL* to find all surnames beginning with LAL). If not, what given names do you expect to find in the household in 1870 (or before)? I'd be glad to run a quick wildcard search for you if you don't have access to that search capability.
