The phone number is /was 212-475-4576 and it is on the East Side, lowish, but not down in Alphabet city, I don't think. I had a grandfather baptized there in 1909. My experience with Catholic churches in Manhatten is : They want a letter, not a phone call If you tell them you want a photocopy of a record, not a certificate, you may get more information.
