my apologizes for posting this to the entire list. HOLMES O'CONNELL Doc, I just joined the New York list to post a request for assistance with the now extinct fire patrol. Glad to see you are still out there. I still have the information on the Alabama fire house you wanted a picture of. One of these days unless someone beats me to it. I finally called working for someone (Auburn University) quits effective 1 July 06. There is no procedure for non-faculty to work less than 40 hrs a week with any type of benefits. I asked for 75% of my salary and the equivalent in my benefits and the provost said "no" which made my decision a lot easier to make. Damn faculty can get all sorts of perks such as working 9 months while receiving all benefits, with the prof paying slightly more, getting upwards to 90+% of their 12 month salary, and paid if working during the summer semester. I was asked by my department head, who I will add did nothing that I am aware of to change the policy thereby to keep me, if I would work part time. I told him I'll not be a servant to anyone. Obviously he and I didn't part of good terms. In fact we have yet to say goodbye to each other and I am sure he is relieved to be rid of this thorn in his side. However I have no regrets in being the thorn as I knew the department could be bett! er for my actions. Retirement is great but my days are full. In fact "worked" through lunch today. I hope you are well. Have a pleasant day. HOLMES O'CONNELL Hi Heidi, I notice you state Julia A. was born between 1840-44, probably in NYC, but then state records have her born in New Jersey. Also, if she was born lets say 1842, NY or NJ, then to marry lets say at 18, would be 1860, to whom is unknown, but presume O'Connell, since you are not sure if she married an O'Connell before James Hay in 1870. But then you say she had children before she married James Hay, so I would pressume then she was married to O'Connell/Connell or someone else then. I have looked in 1850, to find her with parents, whoever they might be. There are three listed born in NY about 1843 plus minus 2 years, Julia Holmes Cleveland Ward 2, Cuyahoga, OH abt 1840 New York Julia Holmes Cleveland Ward 3, Cuyahoga, OH abt 1843 New York Julia M Holmes Charlton, Saratoga, NY abt 1840 New York And as for NJ, only one, Julia Holmes, Raritan, Monmouth, NJ, abt 1844 New Jersey 1860, only one Julia A. born NY, none born in NJ and these searches, I did not specify which state she maybe living in. Julia Holmes Brooklyn Ward 6 District 3, Kings, NY 20 abt 1840 New York Female Julia A Holmes Kingsbury, Washington, NY 18 abt 1842 New York Female This Julia A. is living with Wm C Holmes 40 Juliett A Holmes 37 Julia A Holmes 18 Sarah J Holmes 9 George H Holmes 4 The other Julia b. abt 1840, NY is living with the following Sbanas Holmes 55 Elizabeth Holmes 55 Lewis H Holmes 27 Frank S Holmes 19 Julia Holmes 20 Sarah A Holmes 16 John H Holmes 13 Ann Lzous 25 Sarah Kenny 23 In 1860, presuming she may have married before James Hay to an OConnell/Connell there is only one, there are no other Julia O'Connell's born either NY or NJ as O'Connell or Connell. Julia Connell, New York Ward 8 District 3, New York, NY 16 abt 1844 New York Female, but she is a daughter. Looking in 1870 for a James Hayes, not knowing when or where he was born, there are 106, living in NY. 1880, there is a James Hayes, b. 1837, NY, with a Julia, b. abt. 1838, NY, no children....another Hayes family most likely the brother of James, a Robert Hayes.
