    3. Hi all I am new to the list and just wanted to ask if anyone knows how a friend can obtain a 1905 New York death certificate from the UK please? Where does she have to apply to and how much do they cost? Will they send to the UK and can she pay by credit card? Many thanks Carolyn

    3. Hi, Depends where in New York the person died....was it New York State or New York City? If New York City then you can apply for a copy through the New York City Department of Mental Health and Hygiene....cost is USD$15. VERY IMPORTANT DON'T forget to send copies of 2 photo ID's when applying or the application will be returned (like mine). No they don't accept credit card payments...I sent an international bank draft. Sent it back today with 2 photo ID's so hopefully will get it this time. Others may be able to advise you if the death occurred in New York State.... .I have found American research quite hard with no centralization of records (they are all over the place) but the people on these lists are extremely helpful.     3. If someone else has not already offered, I think I can obtain this certificate for your English friend, provided you have the name, the date, the borough, and the certificate number. I will be ordering from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. Their service is pretty fast -- two to three weeks. When the document arrives, I will scan it and e-mail it to whomever you designate.
