    1. [NYNEWYOR] name change question
    2. kate
    3. Hi all- I have a relative who was born William(we're assuming for his father) according to his birth certificate in 1887, but by 1900, his name is John Henry. He was born in Manhattan. In those days would there have been a legal name change, or could the mother just call her son whatever she wanted to on the census? I'm just wondering if there would be a court record for a name change? I'm asking because he was John Henry on his WWI and WWII draft registration, and in his obituary he was John H. No other sign of him ever being William, except on his birth certificate. Thanks! Kate --------------------------------- No need to miss a message. Get email on-the-go with Yahoo! Mail for Mobile.
