Hi Mary, You gave me just the type clue I was hoping for. There is a John Staples buried in the same cemetery as William. Could be William's father. The store in New Rochelle could certainly have been his. If this is William's father a Wall Street office is also possible, William never 'worked' at anything and his son Ernest was a Yachtsman and hung out with the upper crust.
