    1. [NYNEWYOR] Happy Constitution Day
    2. Sue Maxwell
    3. On September 17, 1787, the delegates of the Constitutional Convention signed the Constitution of the United States of America. One of those delegates, in an attempt to bring about unanimity, said, "I agree to this Constitution with all its faults, if they are such....For when you assemble a number of men to have the advantage of their joint wisdom, you inevitably assemble with those men, all their prejudices, their passions, their errors of opinion, their local interests, and their selfish views. From such an Assembly can a perfect production be expected? It therefore astonishes me, Sir, to find this system approaching so near to perfection as it does....Thus I consent, Sir, to this Constitution because I expect no better, and because I am not sure, that it is not the best." Two hundred and twenty-one years later, I believe we could all reassure the wisened Doctor Franklin that the U.S. Constitution is, in fact, the best. Yes, it still has imperfections despite its 27 amendments, but it has served as a beacon to millions in this country and others around the world who find security in its words and hope in the rule of law, separation of powers, and governance by "We the People" it establishes. I hope you will join me in celebrating Constitution Day today by honoring those that authored, amended, and are yet defending our Constitution. Happy Constitution Day! May we cherish our freedoms and those who gave all to make us free and our ancestors who had the courage to come to a new country. Sue
