Although stationed in Flatbush he was there many days on search and rescue then search and recover. He told me some horror stories. So sad. I was living in VS at that time and they closed Sunrise Highway west. I was home that day and happened to have the TV on and saw what happened. I will never forget. My poor son-in-law still has nightmares. He lost his old Captain and many men than transferred to NYC. We knew many that lost their lives or relatives of those that are gone.
