Sue, I love you Dear Heart, but the Constitution of these United States is not...'Genealogy" and inappropriate on a genealogy list. But, since you feel so strongly about this perhaps this sort of post from you could go on a Political list or a chat list. We who are deeply into genealogy and searching for our breaks in the walls we have.... would not have to hear comments from others who are not so nice about their feelings. Then you could devote strictly genealogy queries to this list. How does that sound? I am sure you could handle a few more lists, Me..... I'm on about 20, My favorite one is about food and wine.....Big hugs, Claudia -----Original Message----- From: nynewyor-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nynewyor-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Sue Maxwell Sent: Thursday, September 18, 2008 3:02 PM To: nynewyor@rootsweb.com Subject: [NYNEWYOR] Happy Constitution Day Are we having a debate? I don't think so. I think that it is obvious that the Constitution and what the men who started this country did have a lot to do with genealogy-- and some of us can trace our lineage back to those men. I was totally overwhelmed, excited, and felt a keen responsibility when I found that one of my lines goes back to them. They have a genealogy, too, and I think we might learn much from their lives and their descendants and ancestors about character, sacrifice, etc, as well as from our brave ancestors who came here to live in freedom. Despite all of our problems, America is still the best place to live, and we genealogists are contributing to an understanding of history by doing ours and creating a sense of family, which we are fast losing as a nation. I say three cheers for all that take the time to do this very important work. Some may think we are crazy, but they don't know what an amazing experience it is! I think we can agree to disagree- ok? If I was researching the founding father's lives, whom I am related to, the Constitution and their involvement in its development would certainly be part of my historical setting for their lives. I guess because I am writing a book to be published ( not a genealogy style book with only descendancy in it), I have come to see how the history of the times is connected with the people.
