While WWI enlistment records are not available online, there is an alternative. After WWI, the War and Navy departments created service summary cards for every WWI veteran. The cards were turned over to the state adjutant general of the state where the veteran was living at the time he entered the service. New York's WWI service cards are held by the New York State Archives in Albany. You can obtain a copy of a WWI veteran's service card for $1 from the state archives. The cards contain such information as induction and discharge dates and military serial number. A description of the cards is located at this link: http://www.archives.nysed.gov/a/research/res_topics_mi_wwi_military.shtml#b0808 Here's a link to the New York State Archives order form for WWI service summary cards: http://www.archives.nysed.gov/a/research/res_topics_mi_warsvc_form.shtml To see a sample of the WWI service summary cards, go to the web site of the Florida State Archives, which has scanned and posted on the Internet images of its WWI service cards; here's a link: http://www.floridamemory.com/Collections/WWI/ Bear in mind cards were created only for men who actually served in WWI.
