Liz, New York State does not maintain vital records for New York City. Because Hempstead is in Nassau County, the state is your best bet, but I don't know if the require knowing the town. Thanks Bob. I am thinking it might be best to search these indexes, if they have the 1930s. I think you may be right, they may require a town. The Town of Hempstead required that I give them the name of the town and that was my problem...I don't know what town. I'll check with NARA to see if they have indexes for 1930s. Thanks for reminding me about the town,this would have been another $22.
