Hi Barb, Are these easily accessible, to someone in New York, and are they indexed? I have a G grandfather apparently born in NYC C1855. I have found a census record which may assist in finding him as follows:- 1860 US Census Name:- Chas BROWNING Age 1860:-4 Home in 1869:-New York Ward 7 District1, New York, New York Gender:-Male Post Office:-New York Household Members:- Richd BROWNING-Age: 26 Hanns BROWNING-Age: 22 Jno BROWNING-Age: 6 Chas BROWNING-Age: 4 Willm BROWNIG-Age: 3 Geo BROWNING-Age: 1 Jno BROWNING-Age: 38 Emma BROWNING-Age: 7 Eliza Egerton-Age: 19 Joseph Mernick-Age: 23 He is a bit of a mystery here in Australia as all that the family knows, or perhaps in the past wished to know, is that he claimed to have been born in NYC. He was a bit of a snake oil salesman from all accounts and had many "professions" over his years here from C 1875 until he died in Sydney in 1929. Perhaps a death record of one on the above list may indicate who my Charles John BROWNING was. I have found that there are no birth records for New York for this period. Could any lister help please perhaps by checking the deaths referred to in your listing?
